Long Hood Driver: 1969 Porsche 911 E

These days, it’s near impossible to predict what is going to happen in the vintage sports car market. Will drivers who age out of the hobby also cause values to drop on older vehicles that are more fiddly to drive and maintain? Will vintage parts supply completely dry up? Who knows, really. Global events like Ferrari introducing a God-awful EV that immediately sent prices skyward on any original, gated-shifter Ferrari is an event no one saw coming. However, it seems like a safe bet that long hood Porsche 911s will remain stable for the long term. Check out this driver-quality1969 911E listed here on eBay for $65,500 or best offer.

The 911E was once a used sports car that got handed around from owner to owner, generally loved but certainly not immune from the prospect of being painted red and given a gigantic rear spoiler. Finding a car like this one that has remained in largely original condition will always command a premium, but this one does have a few rough edges. The original Irish Green paint is hidden beneath a later respray that doesn’t quite match, but looks presentable enough to live with for a few years. The Fuchs wheels are in good shape but missing a center cap on the left rear.

Irish Green over black is a terrific color combo, and the overall condition of this 911 suggests it was loved. The dash isn’t cracked and the original details are present, including the large steering wheel and glove box badge. The 911E occupied the middle of the sports car’s family hierarchy, offering a comfortable compromise between a true base model and the high-performance 911S. 1969 marked a few important changes, including a longer wheelbase and fuel injection, both of which helped in high-speed driving.

As you can see, the original Irish Green remains in the engine bay, which shows you how much brighter the original finish was. The factory stickers remaining in place is a huge win for the next owner who repaints it, as this means you don’t have to go tracking down the original adhesive elements. The 911E’s engine puts out a respectable 140 b.h.p., and will reach 60 in under 9 seconds with relative ease. The seller’s asking price seemingly reflects the overall condition, but hopefully a deal can be struck in the high $50s which leads enough room for some cosmetic tidying, if not a full respray. Nice find here. Winding that flat 6 up is pure music. Sure did miss the color match though.
