Major Project: 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle

Broadly speaking, there are really two types of project cars. There are the ones where you know that a few weeks in the workshop will have the car as right as rain. There are also project cars where you need to draw a deep breath and know that you are faced with a lot of work, but the vision that you have in your head will make the effort worthwhile. This 1967 Chevelle definitely falls into the latter category, but whoever decides to take it on could potentially finish up with a nice car. Located in Warminster, Pennsylvania, you will find the Chevelle listed for sale here on eBay.

This Chevelle 2-door sedan has some rust issues…plenty of them. The frame is said to be solid, although it does have a fair coating of surface corrosion. The rockers also appear to be solid, although the quarter panels both have a reasonable amount of rust, as do the front floors and trunk floor. With the body, it really is a case of “what you see is what you get.” If you can’t see it in the photos, then it simply doesn’t come with the car.

The original 6-cylinder engine is present but is incomplete. The car has been sitting out in the elements for an unspecified period of time, so the engine looks like it has been exposed to a lot of moisture. If it isn’t locked solid, I would be very surprised. I think that the engine would probably best be used as a boat anchor. The original automatic transmission is present, as is the 10-bolt rear end.

The owner believes that the Chevelle was originally fitted with a bench seat, but this has been removed in favor of the buckets that you see in this photo. All of the trim is present, and while some of it looks like it could be reused as part of the project, I think that you could safely bank on having to restore or replace a lot of items.

In reality, the next owner of this Chevelle is going to be facing a fair mountain in returning this car to the road. If someone does take it on, I would be surprised if they returned it to its original specification. I would see this with some form of V8 under the hood, once a hood has been sourced and fitted. The owner has set a BIN price of $2,950 for this car, but the option is there to make an offer. Would you take it on, or is it all a bit too much for you?

If this was a ’69 300 I’d probably be all over it, six cylinder and all. It would also depend on how much of the missing front end pieces are available. If this is all there is, then it isn’t much more than a crushing project. But if most of that stuff is going with it well, it is viable, even though it is a major challenge…

Eek. While an under-3k price for anything is refreshing these days, this car will need an absolute ton of work and I have to think that spending more for a better starting car will be a better bet.

I mean, this is the basest of base Chevelles, covered in rust and dents, without a title, and with a good part of the car missing entirely. If someone decides to take this on, I mean this sincerely: good luck.

…plus which, I think the sellers finger got stuck and added the extra zero. I’m afraid I wouldn’t offer more than $295.00. It needs a lot (that’s A LOT)of work.

Major Project? I think this one deserves a coupla promotions. Maybe all the way up to General Project! You’re right about this Chevelle. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Yeah that’s a BIG project for sure, but the Mustang in the background looks interesting.

      T-Bird as well.

No thanks on the Chevelle, however.

I wouldn’t buy it unless that trunk patch is included. Only think I can see here Is the vin. Somebody used this for a parts car. I love the cheapie models, but this one is way to far gone. Good luck to the new owner.

Stuff like this is laying around properties all over my region. I like that it is a “post coupe,” which makes for a much more solid base. I’ve had two Buick Specials from this year that had doors that shut like bank vaults. With this much rust the seller is dreaming on price. Something like this could be “well bought” in the $700 to $1000 range. And then only if I had a local source for the front clip. The Cutlass wheels and bucket seats are actually a negative to me. I’d rather see the bench inside and some steelies/poverty caps on the outside.

A lot of good stuff if you click “other items for sale” on the eBay listing. They have a Triumph (Herald/Vitesse) Sport convertible in similar disheveled condition. Mustang and Thunderbird are not currently listed for sale. I see a Lincoln MkIII in the background too.

This is one the owner would have to pay me to drag away. 2995.00 hahaha

If this is worth 3K, what is a complete unrusted body worth?

This car is not worth $3000.00 in this condition, but is probably the rarest chevelle body style for 67.
