The seller of this long-hood 1966 Porsche 911 is not selling just one car, but a large assortment of desirable air-cooled tin. However, it’s not without some scandal, as the seller is well known among the Porsche community. While his name may not be instantly recognizable, the town where the cars are stashed is what usually makes people say, “Oh, I know that guy.” Located in Sheridan, Wyoming, the internet is rife with tales good and bad of the cars that are located there and the man that has collected them. Find this example (and several others) listed here on eBay for $65,911.

Wow. That’s a lot of old air-cooled inventory, and thankfully, it looks like it was stored in a dry, clean building. From what I can gather, there’s no denying the man owns a desirable and valuable collection of old sports cars, but questions linger about whether he actually wants to sell any of the inventory he has. Pelican Parts, the popular Porsche forum that’s an extension of the parts retailer, supposedly banned him from participation after too many members complained of agreeing to buy a car or parts, only for the seller to go dark on them. Still others reported buying cars sight unseen, only for them to show up with significant issues.

But I don’t tend to trust these initial opinions, at least not without looking for some positive feedback first – and the Porsche hoarder in Sheridan does have some supporters. Most of them point to it being far smarter to show up in person, inspect the goods, pay in cash, and be on your way. And when buying a project, especially one that still costs real money, I’d always recommend showing up and laying hands on it. This 911 has a lot going for it, including the rare optional wood dash and a supposedly matching-numbers drivetrain and transmission. Despite being off the road for a decade or more, it looks remarkably complete.

When a seller like this gets bad-mouthed, I usually attribute it to a mixture of people being slightly envious of the inventory he has and because he’s likely not inclined to wheel and deal. And why should he? He has something everyone wants. A Polo Red long-hood 911 with matching numbers and some desirable options is a car you’re not going to find everyday, so you really can’t go into this expecting to get a discount. For what it’s worth, the seller appears to sell fairly often on Bring A Trailer, which would certainly ban him if his transactions didn’t come to a successful conclusion. When it comes to opinions, everyone has one – and my opinion is this car looks worthy of a visit to Wyoming.

This dealer often had cars of his featured on this site several years ago, I think the comments said he was well known amongst Porsche enthusiasts for having high prices.

One way to “show off your collection” is to post ads with ridiculous prices.
Not to be overly blunt, but this guy is a raging asshole, and pretty much impossible to deal with. I think he gets satisfaction from being a jerk to people that just want to give the cars a good home.
Read the feedback on eBay. I’ve been ripped off by plenty of “nice” people.
What a hoard! Like finding King Tut’s tomb! He has every reason to gloat.
