Mexican Carry-All: 1976 Ford B100

Now this is something we don’t see every day: a Mexican market Ford B100, basically a 3-door Bronco that the U.S. never got. However, this truck is a touch rarer owing to its deletion of the unusual third door and replacement with a panel van-style body. The Ford features barn doors out back, no windows on the sides (with the exception of the front doors), and a 302 V8 under the hood paired to a 4-speed manual. The Ford is listed here on eBay with a price of $10,500 or best offer.

Boss! Someone had some fun with this truck at some point, giving it the Mustang treatment courtesy of some graphics going down the sides and the back doors. The seller doesn’t offer much info other than confirming its Mexican origins and that it currently has a U.S. title. The slot mags go nicely with the general attitude this truck carries, which includes a manual transmission to go along with the V8 under the hood. It’s hard to tell whether there’s any rust or bondo in the body, but since it was likely never treated like a collector’s item in Mexico, some level of previous body repair is likely.

That’s just a guess, however, and based on the interior, it seems likely this Ford hasn’t been used as a work truck in some time. Red wall-to-wall carpeting and rear compartment that looks like any other shaggin’ wagon from the 70s indicates to me this Ford was someone’s pride and joy versus being used for transporting tools and plumbing equipment. The seller includes photos of other Mexican-market SUVs like this one, so he’s clearly made a bit of a business out of moving these unusual early SUVs over the border. The interior shows bucket seats from a later model vehicle, padded walls, and a custom headliner.

The engine bay makes the 302 look downright puny! The good news is there’s plenty of room to work or space for a Coyote-sized engine upgrade. The seller doesn’t give us any info on mechanical health or reconditioning that has occurred since its arrival in the states, but I would assume there will be some deferred maintenance to sort out. I’ve always liked the oddball Bronco conversions and Mexican market rigs like this one, but my absolute favorite is the Dodge Ramcharger produced in the late 90s that occasionally pops up here in the states. Which SUV born in Mexico is your favorite?

That rear side panel looks like it was attached with pop rivets. It’s an interesting vehicle though.

Long stick, maybe the NP435 in there. 1st gear super low, perfect if you got a heavy load of cervezas 🍺

Ford built that?? I don’t think so. Ford’s built a few turkeys but that’s a Jalisco high school project at best. It once had windows and that’s metal siding material. Anyway the seller is hoping for unicorns at that price. Tequila!
