Mom’s Car: One-Owner 1990 Toyota Supra Turbo

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Toyota changed things up for the third-generation Supra (1986-1993), separating it from the now-front-wheel-drive Celica. The Supra, now its own separate model, retained its rear-drive configuration and gained even more power with an available turbocharged engine available beginning in the 1987 model year. The seller has this 1990 Toyota Supra Mark III Turbo listed here on eBay in Jupiter, Florida and they have a $34,999 buy-it-now price listed.

The seller doesn’t show us too much of the passenger side of this Supra for some reason, other than the above photo and this one from the right rear corner. The Dark Blue Pearl paint appears to be in outstanding condition, although the seller mentions that the front bumper has been repainted. Otherwise, they say that the paint is original, and even more amazing is the fact that their ninety-year-old mother bought this Supra Turbo brand new!

This is one cool mother, and I mean the original purchaser/owner of this car. The seller says that their mother bought this car when she was fifty-eight years old and “drove very little”. They do mention a parking lot incident where she “was bumped in a parking lot and you can barely see some spider webbing in the rear bumper cover paint” and the left rear tail light lens was replaced. Hagerty is very bullish on the third-gen Supra, especially the Mark III Turbo cars, with a #3 good condition value of $18,000 and a #2 excellent condition value of $42,200. That’s nothing, their #1 Concours value is – are you sitting down? – $82,300!

Sadly, this is the only somewhat overall interior photo so we don’t get to see too much inside this A70 Supra, other than it has a console floor shifter for Toyota’s A340E four-speed automatic transmission. That is, from my perspective, the only blip in this car and maybe why they don’t have it priced even higher than they do. The seats appear to be in nice condition. This car also has a Targa top and, unfortunately, the seller hasn’t shown that either from the exterior or interior.

The engine is Toyota’s 7M-GTE, a 3.0L fuel-injected double-overhead-cam inline-six which had 232-hp, a 32-hp bump over the naturally-aspirated version. The seller has “all the manuals, books, catalogue and original key tag from the dealer” and they say that the AC was changed over to R-134. The title is in the seller’s name as their mother isn’t driving anymore. She sounds like a cool woman and this looks like one superb Supra Turbo!

Odd Carfax…somehow the car never added a mile since 2019 when it went to a shop for exhaust work, then went for a drive through State Inspection. Then it went to another shop in NY for an inspection, then it relocated from NY to Fl. Then it went to another shop to repair the AC in Fl. Never added a mile. Also, a less minor detail but there isn’t a Greenvale Toyota in Glen Cove as it states in the ad. There is a Penn Toyota in Greenvale, NY though. My mom also purchased a car there that she still owns. Unfortunately, it’s a boring 4 cyl Camry and not a Supra Turbo. Oh well…

I personally like this body style Supra over the one that replaced this. I also don’t care for a automatic transmission in a sports car but they actually work pretty well with the older turbo engines. I drag raced my boss when we both had Audi 5000CS turbos his was the automatic and I had the 5-speed. We were neck and neck the whole time.
Anyway this is a nice Supra and the first one I have seen in quite a while. Especially this nice. Should bring the money and is probably a good classic car investment.

$35,000 can also put a 375 hp 1990 ZR-1 Corvette 6-speed in your carport. Each to his/her own I guess.

Now that you mention it, that would not be a bad thing at all.
