The Plymouth Barracuda was all-new for 1970, sharing its new E-body with the Dodge Challenger. Chrysler’s “Hi-Impact” colors were in high style and appealed to those who wanted to make a fashion statement with their rides. This roller has the rare FM3 color code known as Moulin Rouge on Plymouths and Panther Pink on Dodges. In the Barracuda camp, perhaps only 255 were produced in this wild color, so the seller’s car is rare, even though it’s a big project from stem to stern. Located in Meridian, Idaho, this Plymouth is available here on eBay where bidding is holding steady at $4,900.
Plymouth would sell nearly 50,000 Barracudas in 1970, its best year up to that time and a record that would never be broken. The cars lost their roots to the compact Valiant which they had shared since 1964. Although the Barracuda and Dodge Challenger had similar bones underneath, there was no sheet metal common between them. The cowl tag (which has been removed from this car) tells us a lot about the seller’s vehicle. Besides confirming the rare color, this car had a 318 cubic inch V8 and TorqueFlite automatic when new, but those major components are long gone along with much of the front clip. So is the white vinyl top that once adorned the automobile.
This car was repainted black at one point and body filler is visible in some places. Rust will be the usual challenge with it present in the floors, trunk pan, quarter panels, and most everywhere else. The Plymouth was in an accident some years ago which resulted in the up-front damage. Although not pictured, we’re told the bucket seats, center console, bumpers, and other items have managed to survive.
One unusual feature on this Barracuda is the addition of a sunroof which was installed by a prior owner, not by the factory and likely not by the selling dealer. If this car were a sweet survivor or a nicely done restoration, the rare color would help it fetch a pretty penny on the open market. But getting this rough roller to that same level of quality will not come cheap.
You are kidding right???
This looks really economical to operate on down hill drives.
Its just not very aerodynamic, and some sheet metal should be wrapped around that front end someway.
I kind of like that ID plate is removable, maybe it can be attached to a 1970 AMC Gremlin. Nobody will know the difference will they?
got to be kidding……George Carlin said: you slap two things together that have never been slapped together before and some shmuck will buy it from you.
But in this case NOT!
Al ,yes it is economical to operate this thing on downhill drive because it’s a Zero-Emission Vehicle.
Jesus more trash!!
A Flintstones, car. Just use foot power to stop & go. More junk !!
Its not April 1st , is it ?
5600 for half a car? Really what is worth the money? The after market sun roof? The pitted dirty looks like it was under water console? There isn’t anything else worth anything. Mopar guys definitely smoke the best weed.
The next time I buy half a car, I am going to stipulate only the inside half.
Okay! It’s time for another round of…HOW MUCH CAN I GET FOR MY PARTS CAR?…with most of the parts, GONE! Good Luck Dude
Probably found it in a junk yard or behind some dude’s garage, saw the color, knew what it was, picked it up for little to nothing and now it’s at $5,600 with a week to go. Nice little payday for the cost of a tow, pressure wash and putting it in an uncluttered garage for pics.
Now at $7k. Cha-ching
Sold at $9,300! I wonder how much of that was from taking the time to present this disaster in its best possible light. If the bids were cooked, someone took the bait and snipered in the final shot.
When someone is parting out a car, be the first one there. Then only buy the tires and wheels.
Makes for a fun lawn ornament!
Train Wreck
Garbage
crap
I would like to test drive it first.
The problem is: they’re not kidding. Again best of luck to the buyer, you’re going to need it.
I have a 318, Fm3 over white, 70 Barracuda with 500 stroker filling the engine bay now.The color draws unsolicited offers to purchase constantly , which tells me there’s a demand for the pink musclecars lol.The code on the tag might be worth 5 grand .
It’s been confirmed that it ran when parked.
If what Mother Nature did to it,plus Father Time, some idiot got a sawz all and cut the roof open for a 99.00 Strauss store sunroof, it’s junk!!!
I believe the bidding is for the VIN tag. Get your bill of sale or ownership transfer and transfer to the one you have.
Is the VIN tag worth that much? I’m not a Plymouth fan so don’t know.
Just a thought.
Cheers
Needs a sunroof for Dino.
Man, I really wish I would have bought all those wrecked mopars in the local junkyard for scrap price in the 90s, tossed them in a swamp for another 30 years, drug them out and put them up for sale in 2022!
Was the VIN screwed on from the factory? My friend built a custom but he used the entire firewall with riveted VIN to establish the year.
What’s sad is someone with very deep pockets will put this or a clone together. Then wow the collector car market with another low mile rare Mopar. Should have been left in the field.
ima say this and everyone on here is gonna say im crazy but, i know a guy who would save this and has the ability and know how to do so, eerie eric, guy that built the iron lung bubble top car
Now up to 7000. There appears to one born every minute (or second).
$7000 now with 5 days to go, crazy!
I wonder if it’s friends pumping the price?
SOLD for $9,300.
