According to the seller, this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air was featured in the 1986 movie As Summers Die. It was parked in 2016 and was recently pulled from a yard. I don’t know if the car comes with any documentation regarding the movie connection, but even if it doesn’t, this car is really cool. It can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid of $15,400 and the reserve hasn’t been met yet. Now located in Dothan, Alabama, the movie was shot in Valdosta, Georgia, so I guess (at least geographically) the connection is plausible.
The ad says the engine is a “fresh” 283 from 1958. It is linked to a Muncie 4-speed, which is a big improvement from the 3-speed that the car came with. The seller says they have the original 283 and Powerglide, but don’t mention if they are included in the sale. The car also has a new fuel tank, pump, and carb.
This car looks very original. You can see the dash is un-cut, which is a big plus. The seller says the car needs the driver’s inner rocker addressed along with the front passenger fender (which they have). The floors and trunk are said to be in good shape.
Overall, this car looks really nice for being over 65 years old. Obviously, the chrome will need to be redone, but the trim looks really nice. I’m guessing with some wax and elbow grease the car would look 100-times better. A nice set of wheels and tires and the car could probably be driven as-is. It could also be the subject of a full restoration…But, then it would just be another ’57 Chevy. What would you do?
What a rat’s nest of under hood wiring.
Looks to me possibly that someone didn’t have keys and yanked wires to start..
Everyone know on old cars is pull the door look and take to locks smith and number on door lock gets your keys made.
Its a nice tri five hardtop restoration project
Sure, the movie connection is plausible from a geographic standpoint, but does a connection to a B-list TV movie that nobody remembers count for anything?
No, it’s utterly meaningless.
Good price for the shape these days. My 1st car was a 210 2 dr sedan with a 6 and 3 on the tree. I’d have to change the color anyway since that red doesn’t do it for me. I’d be all over it with a magnet since I know where mine rusted and where any bondo would be.
The town drunks from my home town were filmed in the bar scene from the movie , ” Adam At 6:00 AM ” . Nobody thought they were worth more or less afterwards .
I love that movie!
the 3-speed the car came with……the original powerglide…..which is it???
According to the ad it came with a 3 speed, but they have a powerglide to go with it. Take out a 4 speed for a ‘glide? Really?
I was 20 years old in 1967 fresh out of the army after three years in Germany (thank God they didn’t send me to Viet Nam) I got married right away bought a 55 Olds 98 and a 57 Chevy. The Olds was a much better car as previous owner had taken real good care of it. The Chevy on the other hand was not so well loved by previous owners. But I loved it just the same. It was a Bel air 2 door hardtop in White exterior red interior, 283 pg. I would love to get this car and de-rust it, new interior and paint the car perhaps in original colors. I’d renew the brakes and suspension and secure the wiring. Then it would become my daily driver.
God Bless America
How does a movie car, or celebrity’s car affect it’s value? Still runs the same. Unless it’s the Mustang from “ Bullit”’
Hmm.Well they didnt spend the money on it to square it away, did they now?
“Yo Joe, throw that ’58 we got in the back into that wreck we pulled from that yard. Go down to the hardware store and get some orange paint..make it purty”
(eye roll) I know its a two door hardtop……but…but but….
The auction has ended, but did anyone else notice the radiator support has been cut? From the one under hood shot, it appears that the upper radiator hose is the only thing keeping the radiator from falling into the fan blade.
A typical thing to do back in the day when pulling the motor from a Tri-5 Chevy.
Price seems In the ballpark, but without underside pix , and the fact that it didn’t sell could mean other problems.
