The Chevrolet Impala became a series of its own in the 1959 lineup. Previously, it had been a coupe and convertible extension of the Bel Air, sporting some special sheet metal in the back half of the vehicle. The seller has a 1960 Impala that carries a mild styling update from the 1959 model. It’s a 4-door hardtop marketed by Chevy as a Sport Sedan. With rusted-out floorboards, this Bow-Tie project or parts car can be found in Rockport, Texas, and is available here on eBay for $6,500 OBO. Mitchell G. provides us with the tip and wonders if anyone will want it.

Chevrolet redesigned their cars twice after the run of the 1955-57 “Tri-Fives” had ended. The 1958 Chevies were bigger, rounder, and heavier. In response to the futuristic-looking 1957 Chrysler “Forward Look” automobiles, the Chevies were redesigned in 1959-60. They were sleeker than before, had a lot more “points” than the ‘57s, and wore flat fins in the rear that were dubbed “batwings”. The styling execution of the ‘60s was cleaner and more attractive, IMO.

This Sport Sedan (aka “flat-top”) has likely been off the road for many years, perhaps even a decade or more. During this time, it has rusted from the inside, and the outside may be next. The floorboards are almost non-existent, and you have to wonder if, if you sat on what’s left of the seats, it would result in you falling through.

We’re told the engine and transmission are present, but no photos are offered. We guess that a non-running 283 cubic inch V8 and a 2-speed Powerglide are under the hood. The seller says the Chevy is 98% complete, but the upholstery has practically disintegrated. The vehicle has been priced as a project car rather than as a donor, as some of the Impala is intact and ready to be saved.

You jogged my memory Russ. My Grandpa ( the same one with the white with blue interior ’54 and ’66 Impala SS 396 and Turquoise and white ’56 with a V8 I’ve mentioned before also had a ’60 Flat top Impala. Also white with a blue interior. He always pointed out that he only ever owned two 4 door Chevrolets, every other one was a 2 door hardtop. The ’60 and his last one, an ’89 Corsica ( also white with a blue interior, anyone else seeing a patern here???) Were the 4 doors. Anyways, he didn’t quite like the ’59 but when the ’60 hit he liked it. He said he liked the looks of the 4 door hardtop better than the 2 door, so he went for it. It had the 348 in it. And he told me it had manual steering. No one else liked driving it, but he didn’t mind. He even drove my parents in their wedding in 1960 in it. I hope this one gets saved.
my parents bought one new in 1960 white blue interior I turned 16 in 1961 great memories as one of first car I drove
I see parts but not a lot of car.
The seller is dreaming, $6,500 for a 4dr, 6cyl that besides needing floors needs, paint, interior and an unknown amount of mechanical work (including brakes) to make it road worthy. As suggested elsewhere, this is more parts car than project.

Steve R.: I completely agree with with you. While it seems to me that the majority of junkers that have “pie in the sky” pricing are Mopars, this Chevy certainly qualifies.
“Here come old Flattop, he come, creeping up slowly..”
The ‘ol grey mare ain’t what she used to be ain’t what she used to be and which she used to be….
Needs floors might be the understatement of the year
Needs floors and four parts cars.
been for sale for a couple months. lots of rust. upside down resto when done. not economically viable
Expensive, He’ll figure it out. Should be a V8, 283 with the V on the trunk. The grill says 6 cylinder I Believe (no V in the plastic oval). I had a coupe, Impala 283, Powerglide, A.C. White with Turquoise interior and ‘stripe’! Drove like a dream. My 348 El Camino’s were torque monsters. One was a 4 speed and one was a Turboglide with ‘Gr’ on the column indicator. Fun-fun.
Not so many years ago, this would have been crusher fodder.
It still is, it’s just that the seller hasn’t figured that out yet. Parts cars ultimately get crushed.

Here s another “flat top” but not as an impressive “green house” as the Pontiac the other day. Did the Pontiac have a longer wheel base? I smiled looking at the Pontiac flat top. Thinking that if I owned one of the flat tops, I would be very tempted to paint the Hellicopter “parking/landing” insignia on the roof!.
😂😂😂😂😂needs floors🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
Needs floors WOW parts car!
Seller says body has very little rust but practically the whole car is rusted & the right rear quarter panel is rusted out! Seller should at least get it running & take the bs out of the ad. No-one wants to buy a car from a BS’er.
