Never Drove It: 1995 Chevrolet Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Imagine buying a classic sports or muscle car, getting it home, and never driving it. It seems to happen more than you would think, as we have a few cars each year listed with the stickers from the auction that sold it still in the windshield. This 1995 Chevrolet Corvette is referred to as a “special edition” by the seller, but it’s hard to say exactly which model it is and whether it was commissioned by the factory. The Corvette is listed here on Facebook Marketplace as having never been driven since being delivered, and the seller is asking $10,000.

The car is referred to as a “Grand Sport”, which doesn’t yield any conclusive results in Google. Of course, there were the factory-built “Gran Sports” with their iconic blue paint job and white fender stripes, but this is not one of those. The seller specifically calls out the red leather interior and “metal bars above headrests” as details worth nothing, but I can’t discern why those features make it a standout. Certainly, red leather was pretty common on C4 models, as was the matching carpeting.

Performance-wise, I don’t see any major alterations from stock aside from the addition of side-exit mufflers. What I suspect this Corvette most likely is aligns with the El Camino Choo-Choo conversion: a company with close ties to the factory that took GM performance cars and dressed them up a bit. There’s simply not enough evidence in the photos that this is a substantially modified model, apart from perhaps some quick dress-up at a local performance shop.

As you can just make out here, there’s also a rear spoiler that may be a clue there’s a full body kit on this Corvette. Given the side pipes are encased in a plastic side skirt, I’m guessing we’d see a front air dam and rear valence if the whole car was visible. There’s one detail that doesn’t need further debate, however, and that’s the fact that this Corvette has clearly been sitting for some time given the thick coating of dust on it. Does anyone recognize this Corvette as being a legitimate special edition model? Let us know in the comments below.

According to the listing, the seller says it has 68K miles and 2 owners. I think he meant to say that HE hasn’t driven it since he bought it, probably 12 years ago when he put it in a shed. I can’t imagine the possible amount of rodent damage that might have occurred in the interim.

Can’t be too much rodent damage….you notice the cat paw prints in the dust? HA HA

There was no c4 Grand Sport until 1996. They were all 6 speed manual.330hp. This car is an LT1 regular vette.300hp.

I think the only ‘special’ version in ’95 was the ZR1, and this ain’t one.

I thought a “Member’s Only” jacket was part of the Grand Sport package?

No, that was included with the 1982 Collectors Edition…

Grand Sport model came out in 1996, had the LT-4 engine and a 6-speed. Admiral Blue with ‘slash’ stripes on left fender.
    None of that here.

I think it’s special because the seller bought it and that’s the reason. If it’s so special then he should show the bottom of the glove box lid and what build codes are present. I suspect the unique aspects are in the mind of the seller only. I don’t see anything that special here.

RPO codes are in the rear storage compartment on the inside of the lid.

This car’s license plate states it’s a base ZR1. I’m no Corvette pro; that said, I’ve found no reference to any special edition ZR1 in ’95, and from what the FB Marketplace images suggest, it’s simply a base ’95 ‘Vette with a period-appropriate full-body kit. I could be wrong and defer to the real experts that frequent this Comments section.

Jeez. I meant LT1 throughout. Mea culpa.

The only year a C4 Grand Sport was offered was 1996. In 95 the Corvette came as either the base LT1 powered coupe and convertible or the ZR-1 coupe. This car is the base 95. The ZR-1 featured different wheels, wider rear quarter panels and the Lotus developed double overhead cam 350.

This is just a run of the mill 95 Corvette with an aftermarket wing, tail light louvers, fender hash mark stickers and (fake???) side exhaust. $10K is a fair price for this car, if you can live with the wing and other add on stuff. Personally I couldn’t.

Yes, I had a 96 collector series LT4 which was the grand sport drive train and that’s not the LT4 in this car. I do agree a simple wash would probably sell this car. Good luck with the sale 👍.

There was a Z51 suspension package offered around that time, there is a chance he might be confused about that.

No matter what, it was listed 22 weeks ago, the market has spoken and rejected the value he has placed on this car.

This is not a ZR1 as those only came with a manual transmission and this is automatic, its neither a GS(Grand Sport) because none were offered in that year, this appears to be a run of the mill Vette, nothing special.

Agree it’s not a ZR1 as no LT5 engine present. Also the wrong year.

Another lazy seller, get the damn car out of the shed and clean it up. I wouldn’t give him/her $10k with the car looking like this.

Here’s my ” Never drove it” story-
I bought a 1913 Jackson touring car from an auction and the story that went with it was interesting. It had been purchased new in 1913 by an elderly farmer who was a civil war veteran. Perhaps his attempt to move into the modern era. He drove it once and ran into the side of his barn and threw up his hands and parked it. It sat there until after WW II when the family sold it to a museum where it sat again until the 1990’s and the museum closed and the collection was auctioned off. I kept it for a couple years and the paint and interior were all original and in excellent shape.

Listing say radio needs diagnostics? Well if used very little but kept in a shed? I suspect mice issues.

Reread the original ad. It was never driven BY THE CURRENT OWNER, who has only had it for the last 12 years. The car has 68K miles on it. Another “ran when parked”.

Every time I see a listing about a car that’s “never been driven”, it reminds me of the thousands of 1976 Eldorado convertibles that were put away in similar fashion to this C4 Vette. But the price actually looks right, so this seller must be following the C4 market to some degree. If I’m the seller, I might hold on to this; with his claims about this car and with some elbow grease, this thing might actually fetch north of $20K in five years! Just give us better pictures, please!

The way the ad is written, it has all the earmarks of a scam.

My “never drove it” story is my 74 E-type OTS purchased on eBay 20 years ago and researched after my winning bid. Seems the first owner in Palm Springs bought it without telling his wife and sold it to a friend in Michigan less than a year later. The second owner had it for 28 years but drove it sparingly “just to keep it in shape” up to age 80 (him, not the Jag) when a friend persuaded him To sell it to him. The third owner drove it 12 miles home and parked it because it “was not what he expected” and had also bought a 57 T-bird he liked better, and he never drove the E again. Then when a local hockey team came around fund raising he said, “Here, take this Jag” and the team had a dealer put it in eBay where I bought it with just over 51k miles in it. I had also driven it sparingly before a brake malfunction roasted the rear rotors and calipers (and probably the diff seals too) and it awaits a rear cage rebuild as I type and I await temperatures higher than zero in the garage.

Gran Sport was 1996, only. All of them had the LT4 engine, & manual transmission.
