Never Saw Snow: 1994 Cadillac DeVille Concours

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

I realize the title is grammatically-challenged, but this sleek, silver sedan has seriously never seen salt, slush, or snow, says the seller in scenic Spokane. Say that ten times in a row as fast as you can, and before you have it mastered, we’ll be well into seeing this special seven-thousand-dollar sedan. This 1994 Cadillac DeVille Concours is posted here on craigslist in Spokane, Washington, and here is the original listing. Thanks to Curvette for the sweet tip!

The seventh-generation DeVille series was an interesting interlude interruped by…gggggg.. (hands around SG’s neck). Sorry, once I got going on the aliteration train, I couldn’t stop. I’m back now. Gone were the days of the Sedan DeVille and Coupe DeVille; the seventh-generation DeVille came in either the DeVille or the DeVille Concours, and they were both four-door sedans. Hmmm… I wonder what a DeVille Concours Coupe may have looked like

In a trend all too common today, Cadillac came back with the seventh-generation DeVille in a much bigger, longer, wider, heavier design than the previous small cars. Made for a half-dozen years, 1994 through 1999, this car appears to be an absolute gem inside and out. The odometer shows just 61,159 miles, and I truly don’t see a flaw anywhere. I have wondered, though, what a ’94 DeVille Concours Convertible may have looked like

The interior looks perfect, and the first thing that catches my eye is the carpeted dash pad. I’m hoping it’s covering and protecting a perfect padded dash top rather than hiding any cracks, but we don’t know for sure. The Concours received perforated leather seats, and these look almost like new, both front and rear. The trunk compartment looks like it’s never even held a velvet bag full of cotton balls.

The knife-and-fork engine compartment (as in, you could eat off of it) is home to GM’s Northstar V8, which had 200 270 horsepower and 275 300 lb-ft of torque rolling through a silky-smooth four-speed 4T60-E Turbo-Hydramatic sending power to the front wheels. The seller says this California car moved to Spokane in 2018 and has never been driven in the winter. They don’t say how it runs, but I’m guessing it’s a solid, stealthy steed. Have any of you had a somewhat similar DeVille Concours?

Fun write-up Scotty. I caught the alliteration right away, very clever.

My wife’s favorite uncle had one, I think he picked it up as a “regular used car” when it was a decade old. I drove it a couple times, I remember thinking it drove nicely. What was humorous was that the uncle was five foot tall if he stretched a bit and weighed 110 pounds if he had had a couple good meals. Quite the sight, him driving this big Caddy.

That’s darn nice of you, Bob, thanks much. It seems like it would be hard to go wrong with this car for the money.

I liked what you shared Bob about your wifes favorite Uncle. 5 ft. Tall if he stretched a bit. 110 pounds if he ate a few meals. I liked that. But if hes a favorite Uncle, and he let you drive his Caddy on more than one occasion, he must be a very nice man. As for this Caddy. It looks like lts just come off the used car lot at Brogan Cadillac in 1997. Its clean, it was someones cherrished car for sure. The Coupe you came up with Scotty sure looks like its actually from GM. It works!!! Now….. Where’s the convertible and the………….( I’m just kidding, we are giving you the night off).

I had a 95 Eldorado with the same Northstar engine. Ran great, lots of power. I decided to replace all the coolant system hoses. There are pipes that run across the back of the engine, and I pulled a little too hard getting the hoses off, and had leaks. I had to bypass them with hose, and it looked terrible. It turns out those pipes are steel, and will rot if the corrosion protection in the anti-freeze is depleted enough. If this car has the original, 30+ year old hoses, it will be a good idea to replace them. Be very careful with those pipes. Also, the water pump is driven by a small belt on the driver’s side of the engine, not the bigger serpentine belt on the passenger side.

My first project as a young mechanic was replacing the brake system on one of these in 1999. The owner had put it up last winter and had added antifreeze to the brake fluid so it would not freeze. When he got the car out in the spring, it had no brakes. I had to replace all of it, master cylinder, ABS pump, calipers, hoses, metal lines, all of it. It was a beautiful car and only a couple years old at the time.

The DeVille Concours used a slightly detuned version of the 4.6L Northstar engine. The 4.9 was reserved for the base DeVille. A Coupe DeVille was said to be coming for 1995, but was instead cancelled.

That’s a beauty for a very fair price. I’m glad it’s in Spokane and not in Illinois because I would be really tempted to buy that one! I had an elderly friend who had one very similar to this. When she was no longer able to drive, she asked me to drive her around in it every so often just because she liked it so much, before she went to the nursing home and it was sold.

I ‘ve always thought that this design was very attractive. It’s the last to have many traditional Cadillac styling cues – squared off front wheel openings, tall, thin vertical tail lights and skirted, actually, or in appearance, rear wheel openings. Speaking of such, this one is missings its thin skirts. The ’94 and ’95 both had them as standard equipment, ’96’s went skirtless.

      It needs the skirts.

Picture of the engine with “NORTHSTAR 32 VALVE” on it…..yet the author thinks this has a 4.9 OHV V8…..quality writing as always.

I sold them new back in the day at Woodworth Cadillac in Andover MA . The Concours had the 300 hp version while the regular Deville had 275 . You listed it at 200 .

Nope this was after they switched this big body style to front wheel drive and I believe it changed how the car rides the earlier rear wheel drive model had a much more comfortable ride. But this should make someone else a nice car.
