This tribute to a 1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Is a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible under the skin. It’s not a kit car and we’re told is a one-of-a-kind with a lot of custom grafting done. You’re treated to a 455 hp, 6.1-liter V8 under the hood, so it should be a strong performer. But certain title and accident issues are in an AutoCheck report that’s part of the listing here on eBay. This special vehicle is in East Lynn, West Virginia, and the no-reserve auction here on eBay has reached $39,400.
Someone spent a lot of time and money creating this tribute to a 1969 Firebird Trans Am. Only eight of the 697 Trans Ams built in their first year were convertibles, so this auto is trying to emulate a very rare automobile. We don’t know when the transformation took place, but the current owner has been its caretaker for about a year. The current odometer reading is at 64,000 miles. While the vehicle looks mostly like its target, everything that’s mechanical uses current technology.
The modern stuff includes fuel injection, a 4-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, airbags, and ABS brakes. This “Pontiac” is oddly beautiful and you’re likely to get a lot of stares and questions wherever you go. The seller says it has passed a recent state inspection and comes with a reconstructed title. And that’s where a mystery arises. The seller provides an AutoCheck report which dings the car for the title and accidents, but the link will not open. So, there may be issues here that should be understood before committing to a purchase.
Several links to TikTok are provided, but I’m not a member because of the negative press it sometimes gets. So, I haven’t opened them, but if you’re interested in exploring further, here are TikTok1, TikTok2, and TikTok3. Is this the special kind of car that gets your blood flowing?
The tiktok vids are amazing very few comments – it’s completely functional the automatic convertible top functions smoothly the build is flawless really unique & done right.
Torque monster Pontiac BB FI smooth hwy ride I asked about MPG ..hopefully he’ll reply.
We owned a Pontiac franchise until GM killed the brand.
Had some unique cars come thru & built a couple with my cousin Bobby-Joe.
Great memories.
Actually it kinda works for me. Looks better than those ones that try to look like the 77-78. Only things I don’t care for are the wheels and the rear splash pan under the bumper looks too blocky. I would do either a chrome wheel or a honeycomb style.
I agree with Mark F. They dropped the ball on that rear pan. The rest works for me. Wasn’t there a kit that made these Camaros look like a 69 Camaro? Seems like it wasn’t anywhere near this complex.
Not a bad looking car, but for the money this is at right now, I would go for the real deal rather than a wannabe.
He’s probably selling it to buy a real 69
Think the vehicle sports a 6.2l or 376 cubic inch engine, with a matching 455 ft/lbs factory. Saw something similar at the car club with a late model Challenger, into a ‘Cuda, nicely done imo. Agree, the rear pan could have been done better, perhaps rolled under, instead of boxed to end. Has an auto, so perhaps not as appealing, little more power loss as well. Should be able to improve the power easily, then a chassis dyno tune, if one was inclined. Think these sport 3.23 rear gears, fun and low RPM at freeway speeds. Low end torque, auto trans, smooth power. These vehicles handle well as a bonus.
Modern stuff like a 4 speed auto transmission? All 2017 Camaros both six and eight cylinders came with an eight speed auto tranny and stopped making the four speed in 2013. If the builder swapped the eight for the four, the next question is WHY? 🤔
I like the car, but for that kind of money you can get a really nice 1969 Firebird. I’d opt for the real thing.
I have to say this looks a lot better than a Camaro
