Nice Daily Driver? 1970 Ford Mustang

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Ford Mustang entered the 1970s with few changes. The car went back to dual headlights after a one-year experiment with quads. And the taillights were now recessed. Perhaps this lack of change in a busy market contributed to the one-third drop in sales in 1970 (from 300k to 200k units). The seller offers a seemingly nice ’70 fastback that has had a few maintenance items serviced. Located in Port Orange, Florida, this Ford “pony” is available here on eBay, where the current bid of $10,000 (and a penny) is below the seller’s reserve.

Sales in 1970 continued to be dominated by the fastback (aka SportsRoof) at 47% of overall production. That included the “standard” fastback, Mach 1, Boss 302 (T/A racing), and Boss 429. The seller’s car appears to be a regular fastback, which found 46,000 buyers in 1970. A dealer is involved in the sale, which likely explains the lack of history provided. Some of the basics, such as the VIN, odometer reading, and the displacement of the V8 engine, are ignored.

Some recent work has been done, comprising a new gas tank (from sitting?), tune-up, and brakes. The seller suggests the buyer upgrade the car’s suspension as it has a “natural desire to go.” Does that mean the Ford has received some performance mods to (what we think is) the Mustang’s 302 cubic inch powerplant?

The body and gold paint seem good, and no mention is made of issues with the interior (just a photo of the clean dashboard is provided). The wording in the listing implies this is a turn-key machine that may need nothing more than a new home. The aftermarket wheels are a cool throwback touch!

Checked out the sellers other 2 cars. The Riv and the Bimmer. Apparently the convertible BMW was used primarily for transportation to the ” bridge club”♠️

There is not enough information to make an informed decision. A handful of pictures, none showing rust prone areas, especially the top of the inner fenders fore and aft of the shock towers, which is just out of view on all three pictures of the engine compartment. The seller suggests checking to car out in person, that would be a wise decision, though most most potential buyers won’t.

Agree about the information and lack of pictures. Also probably has cowl issues, judging by the stains on the carpet tunnel area. These rot out differently to the older models, which is not necessarily better.

Looks like it originally had A/C, but is missing the compressor.

Is that the dash vents from an A/C car?
The dealer doesn’t know what size the engine is.

Yes, the dash vents are what is used in an A/C car. You can also see that the heater controls are for A/C, the vacuum cannister on the firewall for switching the door locations, and the larger clamp in style radiator. All signs of original A/C.

It’s amazing to me what little effort is put into these listings. I sell things at many different sites and always max out my pictures, identify historical problem areas, and explain all aspects of the item I am trying to sell.
I haven’t found yet that people have so much money they are willing to buy “ pig in a poke”!
Listing should read, “ more questions than answers “. Hard pass . Jmho
