Great-looking Toyota pickups are coming out of the woodwork lately, and this 1994 truck is another fantastic one. Dark Blue Pearl paint is hard to capture but you can see the color in a few photos. It looks black in a lot of them. The big cap / topper / shell on the back is a bonus. The seller has this blue beauty listed here on eBay in the birthplace of Vanna White: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! There is no reserve and the current bid price is a mere $3,550.
It’s amazing what 14 years will do for vehicle design and engineering, and how nice they have gotten. My 1980 Dodge (Mitsubishi) D-50 Sport is like the Flintstones car compared to this fancy Toyota Pickup, with its power steering and just generally being light years ahead of it on advancements and engineering. My truck has standard power brakes but that’s it as far as ease-of-driving features go.
The Toyota Hilux was what these trucks were called in the Motherland but we knew them as the plain ol’ “Toyota Pickup” here in North America. Speaking of North America, this truck was built in the NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing Inc.) plant in California as seen in the VIN starting with 4T. The Tacoma would replace this version in another year or two. The bed looks like new, and how about that cool Vista Cruiser-like upper window treatment?
Bucket seats would have been nice to see in this truck, but at least there’s a five-speed manual so that’s good. As expected, it looks fantastic inside without any apparent cracks, rips, fading, or any other issues that you’d think might be evident on a truck that’s three decades old. The seller says this truck was donated to a national charity and then auctioned, where they bought it to display in their showroom. It’s said to be 100% original, well other than having four new tires and a replacement modern stereo. They have uploaded a ton of great photos, even showing behind the bench seat.
The engine is, yes, Toyota’s 22R-E, a 2.4-liter SOHC fuel-injected inline-four with 104 horsepower and 136 lb-ft of torque when new. Spinning through the five-speed manual to the rear wheels, it’s said to run great and they list the mileage as 18,119 and I believe it. Any thoughts on this tiny time capsule Toyota truck?

I don’t known where to start. Probably just simply wow!!!!…. I can’t believe how well preserved this truck is. It’s like its 1996 and this is sitting amongst the late model used cars at your local Toyota dealership, all that’s missing is the huge $8995 sign for the windshield. The interior, exterior, the bed, even the cap is unreal. How clean it is behind the front seat too. This is a phenomenal find. The only thing that may slow down the sale is that it doesn have 4WD. But honestly, when I was younger I wanted a truck like this in 2WD. Preferably a Mitsubishi, but this Toyota would have done just nicely for me. This is a great find Scotty!!! Thank you for posting it.
🎯 Driveinstile. Love it. Humble, practical transportation. Stick shift, is icing on the cake.
if I wasn’t 3500 miles from there I’d be writing a check (after checking with my wife)
Wow. I wish someone would donate this to my charity.
I had a 99 Tacoma that was basically the same as this truck. My only gripe is they are a little too small. Yeah, I said it. I know the consensus is that the newer trucks are too big, and I don’t necessarily disagree. However, having been rear ended in a 99 Tacoma and bouncing my noggin off of the back glass, I do prefer a little more room in the cab. As far as reliability and driveability (I loved the 5 speed), these are tough to beat. I wish I had kept mine. It had close to 300k miles when I got it, and I paid close to $300 for it! Good memories.
Sorry, but I’m not loving the camper shell.
I hope this is a 5 speed. I owned one of these and loved it, but it only had the 4 speed and it really hurt the drivability of this truck.
Don, I think it’s a five-speed, I don’t know if a four-speed manual was available or not.

If you zoom in on that shift knob it sure looks like five forward and reverse.
Love it to death. I do need to disagree about bucket seats. Bucket seats would make this almost unusable. The tiny cabin absolutely requires a bench seat.
FasterAsteroid, my tiny 1980 Dodge D-50 pickup has buckets and it’s super tight in there so you may be right. It’s a much smaller truck, though.
Do you mean a 4spd automatic? Or a 4spd manual. I think this one is the 5spd manual. I’m pretty sure there was no 4spd manual and it looks like this one is manual shift. Does anyone know for sure if they offered a 4spd manual in 1994?
Flood?
It’s up to $6,200 with 5 days to go, I’m guessing it will sell for $10-12k.
The 22R with a manual shift is just about as bulletproof as you can get.
Zackley, vincheckpro shows no theft records, no accident records, no salvage records, no flood records, and 13 sales records. I think it’s probably the real deal, though not a 1-owner as shown on the ad. Autocheck reports 36 historical records for this vehicle which I believe include sales records and maintenance records. That seems like a lot of records for a “1-owner” vehicle with 18k miles.
Auction update: this one sold for $8,300!
