The Chevy Camaro was treated to its first redesign in 1970 and the sleek, fresh look would carry the car for another 11 years. But it was delayed by three months in getting into production, so the 1969s had extended time on the assembly line. The cars were little changed in 1971, the most noticeable perhaps being the use of high-back bucket seats rather than low-backs with separate headrests. The seller has a nice-looking ’71 “base” Camaro for sale that’s said to be a one-owner car with just 63,000 miles. So, does that mean things like the silver paint and black interior are original?
Despite new styling, the second-generation Camaro didn’t immediately catch on. The abbreviated 1970 model year resulted in nearly 125,000 assemblies, whereas the full year ‘71s dropped to 115,000 copies. The 1972 model year suffered a worse fate (68,000 cars) and the Camaro was in danger of being discontinued (thankfully that didn’t happen, and the car remained in production into 2024).
As a dealer is involved in the sale of this car, history is limited. And the selection of photos used doesn’t help a great deal, either. It has a 307 cubic inch V8, which would have been the first step up from the 250 inline-6. It also has an automatic transmission and – given its column shift – could that be the 2-speed Powerglide? It professes to be a one-owner car, so perhaps it’s being sold as part of an estate which would explain the lack of a glowing testimonial.
The body and paint present well on this Chevy and rust isn’t seen or mentioned. It’s likely been garage-kept since it’s only averaged 1,200 miles/year since new. What we see of the interior looks nice, as well. Perhaps this is the nicest 1971 Camaro left out there, and it’s available here on eBay where $15,000 is the current bid, the reserve is unmet, and the take-it-away-now price is $22,000. The vehicle resides in West Nyack, New York.

Hi Jeff, I sold my ’69 Rally Sport Z/28 to a fella and his son. He said he was buying it for his son. I never saw that car again. I often wonder. I lived in central Indiana. Thanks for another memory.
Another vague ad by a dealer. Try not to say too much and minimize the description. No details about the cars condition, rust or actual body condition, no thanks.
There is something peculiar about the way this as is written, but it won’t matter now since the auction has ended. There is no way I’d have sent money to this seller based on how the ad was constructed, it reeks of someone that has never sold a car and isn’t familiar with the English language.

Had a gold ‘71 base model very similar to this in high school. Bought it off the nearby Chevy dealership used car lot. It had the 350-2bbl and saddle interior with automatic and floor shifter in the center console. The first time I saw it on the lot it didn’t have a vinyl top but unfortunately when I went back a few days later it had a white one.
It wasn’t a particularly mint example, the crease on a rear quarter panel was crooked due to some poor bodywork. It had the full wheel covers which I eventually switched out for rally wheels I got at a junkyard. Dear old dad and I spent many a winter’s night on the cold garage floor fixing stuff. It was a fun and cool car for a 17 year old. Traded it for a new ‘75 Camaro Type LT when I graduated.
Oddly, on 2nd gens, hidden wipers were STD only on the t/a.
I sure would like to see the shifter plate to see if this has a glide in it.

If I were to back a dump truck up and dump a small fortune now a days, it would be a bone stock 70 Z/28 LT1, M22 & 12 bolt. No cowl hood,
And only Stock rally wheels.
