No BS: 1970 Karmann Ghia Convertible

1970 Karmann Ghia Convertible

We would all love to have a Porsche 356 – especially in Cabriolet or Speedster form! That may be a hard goal for many of us to realize though. So, may I suggest this bargain basement alternative instead? It doesn’t have any of the pedigree of the Porsche. Or any of the price for that matter. It’s a 1970 Karmann Ghia convertible and as long as it isn’t completely rotted out, it could be a decent buy at $3,800. It has been listed here on craigslist in Kent Island, Maryland for a month now so either everyone overlooked it or it has already sold. The seller claims that it runs and is equipped with VW’s semi-auto “Autostick” transmission. It does need floors and could be a bigger project than meets the eye. The seller mentions in the ad that they “don’t have the time for BS!” and I’m thinking that could the real reason it hasn’t sold yet. Thanks for the tip Yasha S!

Not even close to worth $3,800 in that condition with an AutoStick. Maybe, $1,500 because there is easily $15K in rust repair, paint, shocks, brakes, engine, transmission, new top and interior costs to bring it to a $20K car when finished. Fun cars (I have owned a couple) but they are not bringing 356 or 911/912 money as some people would hope.

unless some one took the original bumpers off and installed pre 1967s it would be a 68 coming towards the seventies. 1968 was the first year they put the ribbed bumpers on them
