One of the saddest reasons for parting with a project is when an enthusiast faces a physical condition that prevents him from seeing their dream through to completion, and unfortunately, that’s what has happened with the owner of this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle convertible here on eBay.  As if a knee replacement alone wasn’t serious enough, the poor fellow fell afterward and ripped his quads, so a combination of ailments plus a lack of employment has necessitated the sale.  The Chevy is located in Pennington, New Jersey, with the no-reserve auction up to $8,600 so far, but the owner is also open to phone calls if you’ve got an immediate serious cash offer to discuss with him.  The seller realizes the Chevelle needs a total restoration but is also aware of the desirability of a 4-speed convertible.

We aren’t told how long the present owner has been the car’s caretaker, but at the time of his acquisition, he does say the engine was running well and had a lumpy cam sound.  The motor was also started a few months ago and the seller thinks with a few hours’ worth of work this one could be back on the street and driven while you are restoring it.  A new clutch was also installed by the prior owner, so hopefully that 4-speed is ready to shift through the gears.

Although the seller believes the fenders and doors are repairable, his recommendation is to replace all 4 pieces with either new or better-condition components.  The quarters are thought to have been changed out at some point in the past already, but the one on the passenger side especially looks like it could stand some additional attention.  Underneath, the entire floor needs replacing and the trunk pan has already been cut away, and from what I can tell that looks like a piece of wood above where the gas tank would be which I guess is better than nothing at all.

Things inside are stated as being in good condition overall with the seats having been redone at some point in the Chevy’s past, which the seller thinks will clean up well enough for a driver.  There’s a chip in the windshield, but a replacement front glass will be included with the sale plus all the gauges are said to still be intact in the dashboard.  Even though it’s quite a ways from being there, once this one’s finished I’m picturing a very nice fair-weather cruiser or maybe even a showpiece, but ultimately it’ll be up to the next owner to decide what level he wants to take this 1966 Chevelle to.  What would you do with this ragtop?
