No Reserve: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS 396 with 27k Original Miles!

Describing any classic as perfect is risky, but this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS 396 gives that tag a fair shake. It is a spotless and unmodified car with 27,000 miles on the clock. Its numbers-matching V8 guarantees lightning performance, and the icing on the cake is the seller’s decision to list it for auction with No Reserve. Unsurprisingly, those attributes have combined to generate significant interest since the seller listed the SS here on eBay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bidding has raced to $45,100 due to solid action. With No Reserve in play, this dry-climate classic is days away from finding a new home.

Chevrolet joined the pony car party for the 1967 model year with the Camaro, which proved a worthy competitor to the Ford Mustang. It wasn’t perfect, but unlike its Blue-Oval opposition, it rode on a new platform. It would share its F-Body underpinnings with the Pontiac Firebird, giving General Motors the weapons to launch a two-pronged attack on the Mustang. However, it proved necessary because the Ford had become a sales juggernaut by the time this car rolled off the line. The original owner ordered this Camaro in Granada Gold with a contrasting Black vinyl top and stripes. The seller is its third owner and can trace the car’s history since it rolled off the showroom floor. They confirm that while the steel is original throughout, it did receive a repaint in its original color. When this occurred is unclear, but the process involved removing the hanging panels, chrome, trim, and vinyl. The only shortcoming is a slight alignment issue with the badge on the passenger-side front fender, but addressing this should only take a few moments. The panels are laser straight, and the underside shots confirm this is a rock-solid, dry-climate classic with no rust issues. The doors for the distinctive RS headlights work as they should, with the remaining trim and chrome spotless. The glass is free from chips and defects, while the original 14″ Rally wheels are excellent.

Lifting this Camaro’s hood reveals a 396ci V8 producing 325hp and 410 ft/lbs of torque. The power from that big-block feeds to the road via a four-speed manual transmission, blessing this SS with the ability to scorch the ¼-mile in 14.5 seconds. A Mustang GT Hardtop was faster over that distance with the optional 390ci V8 under the hood, but it was hardly a convincing win. The seller confirms the Camaro’s engine is numbers-matching and untouched. It received a transmission transplant at some point, but no reason is given. Another mystery revolves around the odometer reading. They don’t mention verifying evidence for the claimed 27,000 genuine miles, although the known ownership history means it may exist. The car has received limited use while under the seller’s care, and they suggest replacing the tires due to age. Otherwise, it seems to need nothing. It runs and drives exceptionally well, the big-block has plenty of power, and the transmission shifts like a hot knife through butter. This SS will be a turnkey classic once it receives those new tires.

This Camaro’s exterior may have received a cosmetic refresh, but its interior is as it left the factory. The original owner teamed the Granada Gold paint with a Code 711 Gold Custom interior. It features bucket seats, a console with the sports gauge cluster, a factory tachometer, and an AM radio. The condition is exceptional, seeming to support the seller’s odometer claim. There are no signs of wear or UV damage, and the back seat looks like it has never seen occupants. The dash and pad are spotless, the carpet is immaculate, and there are no aftermarket additions.

It will be fascinating to gauge your feedback on this 1967 Camaro RS/SS 396 and see whether a single attribute helps it stand out for you. I view it as a total package because it has many positives. It has received forty bids already, and the price has climbed by over $5,000 in the time it took me to write this article. People want this car and are willing to put their money where their mouth is. It will find a new home in a few days, but are you tempted to join the bidding battle to make that new home yours? Please keep us posted if you do.

Beautiful Camaro. SS/RS big block car. Deluxe interior is as spotless as the exterior. As for the mustang reference there were two more 396s that could be had in addition to axles and such. Might have to brush up on your skills twisting that wheel or squeezing that brake pedal before you get into heavy traffic.

IF the mileage is real (and that’s a very important if and should be checked closely by anyone with the means to buy it), this is a true WOW car. How many 1967 Camaro RS/SS 396 with a holy 4 speed manual and 27k miles are left out there?

It would be a dream to own. Whoever is lucky enough to get it (it’s beyond my wallet), I hope they use it for what it was meant for – driving – and not seal it away in a nitrogen bubble somewhere.

Absolutely love this car, RS/SS camaro’s are one of my favorite cars from the 60’s. I was fortunate to own a 67 SS convertible 327 4 gear, back in the day. Had a lot of fun in that car. A buddy of mine had a 68 with the 396 4 speed, and I’ll never forget the whine of that engine! Still gives me goose bumps!
I hope the new owner of this beautiful car enjoys it!

    Why was the transmission changed?

Only thing I find odd is being as low miles as it is then why not the original transmission? Someone banging gears and broke it? For that kind of money I would want to know. Other than that “STUNNING”!!. Love the RS hideaway headlights and the red only taillights with the reverse lights being on the lower valance underneath. Also an RS only option. And for me the wing windows being a 67 only option really works. Only thing I would want is a spoiler on back. I know, not for everyone. Just my preference.

It’s a beautiful car but it looks to me as though it’s had sub-frame connectors installed. The picture with block number seems to show a leaking water pump. _

For $50k, I’d have hoped the seller would have taken care of it.

Those valve/rock arm covers do not look like a big block 396 to me.

Ok, which engine do you believe they belong on?
Looking like big block heads to me.

What color do you believe it should be?

If the pic is correct, the engine block shows to be more red than the orange it should be.

I agree, the valve covers and engine color are wrong. The door jam also looks rough. I don’t believe the mileage . New trans?
