No Reserve: 1970 Chevrolet Corvette

Flawless classics will always attract admiring glances and comments, and I respect any owner committed to preserving such vehicles. However, enthusiasts seeking a candidate to park in their garage face paying a premium for cars of that caliber, and the cost will often prove prohibitive. That is where classics like this 1970 Corvette Convertible fill the void. It isn’t perfect, but it is an extremely tidy driver-grade vehicle that a new owner can enjoy immediately. The seller is ready for it to find a new home, listing the Convertible here on eBay in Miami Beach, Florida. Bidding has raced to $9,100, and if you aren’t already tempted, their decision to offer it with No Reserve could prove irresistible.

This Monza Red Corvette makes a positive first impression, accentuated by the excellent soft-top and color-matched hardtop. That makes this an all-weather proposition, which many potential buyers will welcome. The paint holds an exceptional shine, and any flaws or imperfections are too small to show in the comprehensive set of supplied photos. It is a similar story with the fiberglass, which shows no evidence of cracking or prior repairs. The beauty of this classic is more than skin-deep, with the seller confirming the frame is sound and rust-free. If the same is true of the birdcage, this Corvette looks like a winner. The trim and glass look above average for a driver-grade vehicle, while the original Rally wheels retain their sparkling trim rings and center caps.

Potential buyers will like what they find inside this Corvette because nothing demands immediate attention. The seats wear Black leather covers that show no evidence of significant wear or damage. The same is true of the remaining upholstered surfaces, while the carpet exhibits none of the fading that can be a hallmark of these cars as they age. There might be a small crack in the console behind the shifter, but the remaining plastic is nicely preserved. There may be some wear on the wheel, but that would be the only other fault I can spot in this driver-grade interior. The original owner ordered this ‘Vette with air conditioning, but the missing drive belt suggests the system may have a fault requiring investigation. The factory radio has made way for an aftermarket unit, but I can’t spot any other additions.

One prime consideration for many buyers facing a classic purchase can be the candidate’s mechanical originality. This Corvette ticks the right box, with the seller stating it is numbers-matching. The engine bay houses a 350ci V8, while the original owner specified a three-speed Hydramatic transmission and power steering to guarantee an effortless driving experience. We can ignore the air cleaner decal because it quotes a power output of 270hp. The entry-level ZQ3 small-block produced 300hp and 380 ft/lbs of torque, which should be the minimum available to the driver. If it is an L46, the output climbs to 350hp. Most potential owners would welcome the additional ponies, and asking the question on that subject could be worthwhile. Potential buyers should consider this Corvette a turnkey proposition. It recently received new brake calipers, a new master cylinder, a new exhaust, and the seller rebuilt the carburetor. It runs and drives perfectly, ready to make the most of the remaining sunny summer weather.

The interest generated by this 1970 Corvette Convertible is unsurprising, with twenty-seven bids submitted already. I suspect that figure will climb before the hammer falls because there is plenty of time for potential buyers to consider whether this is the ideal classic for them. It is guaranteed to find a new home shortly, and the winning bidder could fly in for a Florida vacation before embarking on a road trip as they drive this classic home. Hmm, a Florida vacation, a road trip, and a C3 Corvette offered with No Reserve. That sounds like a winning combination to me.

Looks like a rattle can ‘rebuild’ on the engine.

Not a Top Flight for sure but it’s a decent driver. But as the seller states it ain’t perfect. Getting the wipers to work properly can be vexing. Ask me how I know. Automatic is a demerit for me personally as I like to row my own. That said with the traffic explosion in my neck of the woods and my advancing age the automatic probably makes more sense. And even though the top goes down; the cabin of these Corvettes get right toasty in summer. Better get that A/C working. Not sure I really want another chrome bumper C3 again but it really doesn’t matter because they are priced way too high for what I’d pay now. I’m old and cheap however so who cares. Someone will fork over low to mid twenties for this because that’s what they are going for and that’s just driver quality. Even the anemic engine plastic bumper C3’s have jumped in price the last few years. Just proves what a styling genius Larry Shinoda was.

I’m not a Corvette guy per se past about ’62, but this would be that daily driver tinkerer car you’re not so paranoid in parking lots to run in get a 12 pack. Leave hardtop on in rainy season, even for parking in the garage. Rag tops are mostly for when you didn’t check the weather before going on a drive. And maybe keep a tarp in the trunk as well. It’s not a race car and modding it to be one is whizzing money. Might look for some ally valve covers and start taking care of some cheese that doesn’t belong.

These sellers on ebay that either directly or indirectly contact, “Barn Finds,” are a joke. Then, “Barn Finds,” increases the sellers views. I’m kinda sick of it myself.

Yet another one of the Corvettes pieced together by an EBay shyster, proudly featured here on Barn Finds.

It is an embarrassment to both the Barn Finds staff and this fine community that you continue to feature this seller’s “lipstick on a pig” vehicles.

The tire smorgasbord tells me this guy is the Flip King of Florida with a great PR flack. He can’t be bothered correcting something so obvious, so what is going on with the stuff you can’t see? Good for him. Buyer beware.

this seller’s “lipstick on a pig” vehicles…first thought that came to my mind. As said above the wipers can be a booger to get working, the tonneau/hatch lid fit is wonky, and the Krylon engine rebuild are just a couple obvious things that make one go hmmm.
At least the hardtop helper didn’t whiz on a tire. At least not pictured.

A definite daily driver. I have a 71 that is simular that I bought ions ago that was a put together but it all worked, looked great and was a 4 gear, never an issue with it. Now the down side. These are wonderful on a starry, spring, summer, or fall night but on a summer day in traffic going to the beach, this car is pure misery. Nothing is perfect but these are nothing short of great looking cars hands down. They draw attention everywhere you go. They handle nice with good tires and tight suspension. They are cheap mechanically to maintain. This one featured here is in the same row as mine, Bloomington Mold, not gold but if the car runs decent and bidding doesn’t become stupid then this is a very nice entry level FUN unit to play with. The automatic is a bummer but the hardtop and presence of factory ac is a plus for and older group and sadly quite a few younger folks who look at manuals like they are from outerspace.

Someone on one of the Facebook Vette groups posted a picture of this car claiming they had just bought it. I posted asking if they can give an honest description of it’s condition when it arrives.
