This super clean 1974 AMC Jeep J10 truck is a factory four-wheel-drive pick-up located in Alberta, Canada. It comes with a camper top that the seller states is ultra-rare and made special for this truck by Leer. I think it might sell better if there were some pictures without the camper top but to each his own. The truck is listed here on eBay at no reserve. There are 2 days remaining in the auction. The odometer reading shows 83,017 miles and the seller states that this is accurate. The truck is being sold by a dealer who offers shipping both in the United States and internationally. The truck is currently bid to $10,100.
The interior is remarkably clean and shows very little wear or sun fading. The truck is fitted with power steering and power brakes. The gauges and radio are said to be in working order and the dash looks to be in excellent shape. One tell-tale sign of an original vehicle is the pedals and steering wheel. Both of these look as if they validate the 83k mileage claim. The bronze and white exterior and matching beige and brown interior are vintage 1974 and take you back to the mid-1970s.
Just like the interior, the engine compartment is super clean and the engine paint appears to be nicely done, as well as, the satin black paint on the air cleaner and other components. The truck is said to be equipped with its original, numbers matching 360 cubic inch V8 engine and three-speed automatic transmission. Jeep rated this engine at 175 horsepower and 245 ft-lbs of torque. The only bigger engine was the 401 cubic inch V8 motor that was available from 1974 to 1978. The seller states that the Jeep runs great and has been driven on paved roads for most of its life.
The seller also states that the truck has been stored in a climate-controlled garage. It must have been because the paint and chrome look good. The glass appears to be in nice shape and the truck is fitted with factory steel wheels and Jeep chrome hubcaps. The ad mentions a low Buy It Now Price but that does not appear in the ad.
GREAT looking Jeep pickup!!! Almost too pretty to use as a real truck but that’s what it was built to do which may put the buyer in a conflict-how would you use it?
Personally, I’d change the front hubs to something like a Warn manual and drive it but to each their own!
I won’t be surprised if this goes $17,000. This is a Quadra Trac full time 4wd equipped truck. You can put hubs on it. But you negate the attributes of Q-Trac. As stock it will plow snow 8-10 feet high & climb 45-50 degrees with a bunch of large Jeep parts strapped to the roof. Ask me how I know?
I really like the looks of these old trucks. They were built to work! I have missed out on a couple J10 and 20 trucks. Looking for the right one to restore. I was sad to see the movie industry destroy the yellow Honcho in the movie Twister. Of course they were dime a dozen back then.
I’ve had a number of these and to be honest if I paid 10K for one I’d vomit afterward. Seriously, why is this old junk bringing so much money of late? Don’t get me wrong, they were awesome when they were cheap but 10K (where the bidding is now) buys you a lot of other things that are just as capable, just as cool, have AC and don’t average 3 mpg. It’s like ‘stuff I found parked in a field’ is the new ‘tickle me Elmo’. The car world has lost it’s mind.
There is one that has been listed in the auto trader for quite some time, in Quebec. Asking over $60,000. 10 is a pretty fair price, not many of these still in one piece nowadays.
10K may be a pretty fair price to somebody who has never owned one but I assure you the first time the new owner drives it the buyers remorse will be overwhelming. The only thing that ever made that truck cool was that it was cheap and utilitarian. 10K (or 60K) that truck is no longer cheap and definitely isn’t getting used in a utilitarian manner. None of this trend makes a lick of sense.
There is a 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (Kenosha – Cadillac) for $74,900 Cdn in Saskatchewan. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/saskatoon/1987-jeep-grand-wagoneer/m228205
There are J10’s on Hemmings & Hagerty’s from $13900 to $49500 Usd and many more all over the net.
If you are negligent in the maintenance. They will be expensive.
I think his point is that it’s not a truck you can buy and use. It’s slow, too slow for modern roads. It doesn’t handle or stop well. Gas mileage is horrendous. About the only thing this is good for is driving around in ranch fields or that occasional commute when nothing else will make it.
That said, it looks awesome! What a clean example and could be a good investment. These old Jeeps, regardless of how useful they are, continue to increase in value.
It looks like the steering wheel and column, instrument panel, control knobs, armrests, and probably more came out of my old Hornet.
So apparently I blinked, it’s no longer 1997, and these are no longer $500 trucks. Presto change-o.
Wow what a beautiful truck. Appropriately priced and worth much more. Great to see these going up in value. They are tough trucks and complete many tasks with ease.
No such thing as #’s matching on/in Ramblers or AMC’s. Not unless you mean the easily duplicated metal tab held by a Philips screw to the valve cover. The only verification I have ever used is the cast in dates on the cast iron parts like heads & block. This would have the infamous & never duplicated original Quadratrac. A true “all” 4 wheel drive.
If this was a “Mint” same period 401 V-8, Q Trac, J20, SWB, Fleet side or Honcho. That is the Holy grail of the “J” Jeeps. It would have my address!!!!!!! In the meantime I would definite drop on this. It would cost $25-30k to self-build this J10.
