No Reserve: 1986 Chevrolet C20 Pickup

When they get a few years under their belts, classic pickups can often look old and tired. Finding an original and unmolested example that presents well and is rust-free can be a challenge, especially if you are on a budget. This 1986 Chevrolet C20 may have ridden in like a knight in shining armor because it is not only clean and unmolested, but the owner has listed it for sale here on eBay with No Reserve. The C20 is located in Orlando, Florida, where the bidding has reached $5,100. With No Reserve in play, a new home is only a few days away for this classic.

Chevrolet introduced the Third Generation of its “C/K” truck series for the 1973 model year. Such was its success that it remained in production with nothing more than running changes and cosmetic updates until 1991. The C20 sold like hotcakes because potential owners recognized them as rugged and reliable workhorses. Many worked hard to earn their living, becoming tired and shabby. Finding an original survivor that presents well is challenging, but that is what is on offer with this 1986 C20. Its Light Blue paint holds an excellent shine, with no significant flaws or defects. The panels are as straight as an arrow, but it is the bed that steals the show. The seller recently opted for a professionally applied spray-on Rhino bedliner, but the steel beneath is devoid of significant dents or marks. When combined with the clean panels, it suggests this classic has not suffered any physical abuse. The buyer won’t need to consider the presence of rust because this C20 is as solid as a rock. The seller has retained the original wheels and hubcaps, and as is the case with the trim, chrome, and glass, there is nothing to fault.

Apart from an aftermarket radio/cassette player and what appears to be a trailer brake controller, this C20’s interior is original and unmolested. It is also in surprisingly good condition for its age. The seller identifies a couple of small tears on the driver’s side of the seat, but a competent upholsterer may be able to apply blind patches to prevent further deterioration. Alternatively, an aftermarket slipcover would hide the problem, or the buyer could spend $320 on a new seatcover in the correct color and material to eliminate the problem permanently. It looks like someone has painted the original rubber floormat because overspray is visible on the kick panels. Otherwise, the remaining trim looks excellent, while there are no issues with the dash or pad.

The original owner ordered this C20 with a 350ci small-block V8, a four-speed manual transmission, power steering, and power brakes. That V8 should produce 165hp and 275 ft/lbs of torque, and while that may not sound earth-shattering, the fact the torque peaks at a mere 1,600rpm makes the C20 a prime candidate as a tow vehicle. The photos reveal a hitch receiver in place, suggesting that it may have previously served in that role. There’s plenty of good news for potential buyers, with the seller indicating the V8 feels strong and the transmission shifts smoothly. With summer now here and the opportunities that warmer weather offer for those wishing to hook up a camper trailer to head into the great outdoors, this C20 looks like a hot prospect.

The indications are that the next owner of this 1986 Chevrolet C20 will slide behind the wheel of a classic pickup with no immediate needs. It should easily carry almost any load they will throw at it, while the hitch receiver and healthy V8 under the hood could make it an excellent tow vehicle. People seem to like what they see because the C20 has already attracted twenty-two bids. However, the price hasn’t gone stratospheric, meaning it may remain in the affordable territory when the hammer falls. If you seek a classic V8 pickup, this one could be a prime candidate.

Search the seller’s other auction listings, and he has this truck with a Buy It Now for $17,495!
This is nice – you can tell a previous owner added aftermarket cruise control and (I think) delay wipers (the silver box on left side of dash). Also, many trailer wire plug ins – a 7 pin under the bumper, and a 5 pin (?) In the left side of the bumper. If anybody knows for sure, post a reply.
With those specific adds, this truck was loved and used, not abused.

Those door panels ruin the interior, IMO. And that red heater hose? It has to go. Right Scotty?

No underside pics. Truck has been painted. A personal inspection is strongly recommended.

A little front end work on this one, perhaps?…looks like a new panel above the radiator, and some overspray on the rubber bumpers that go between the hood and the top of the fenders…still, a clean example…
