No Reserve Garage Find: 1984 Chevrolet Corvette

A C4 Corvette is perhaps one of the cheapest and most user-friendly entries into classic car ownership. Thanks to generous production numbers and ease of accessing spare parts, it’s not exactly hard to find one for a very reasonable price tag. This 1984 Chevrolet Corvette is described as a recent garage find that had been sitting for many years when the seller got his hands on it. It doesn’t run and he’s made no attempt to start it. The Corvette does appear to be in fair condition for a neglected muscle car, and the listing indicates there are around 105,000 miles on the clock. Find it offered here on eBay with no reserve and bidding under $3,000 at the moment.

The Corvette of the 80s was not exactly a high watermark for enthusiasts. Often maligned for its ho-hum performance and malaise-era pedigree, the C4 has been cheap for eons. It’s too bad, because the styling is still quite attractive today, and Chevrolet integrated some nice design language like the “salad shooter” wheels, glass rear hatch, and integrated targa roof top. Even if it was down on power compared to its forebears, it moved out OK and certainly wasn’t obscenely slow; still, it offered a mere shadow of the muscle car performance of the 1960s and 70s.

Despite showing average miles and generally not being looked after, the leather interior is still in very nice condition with Corvette-branded floormats to protect the beige carpet. The dashboard still looks lustrous and the factory radio and equalizer controls all appear to be present and accounted for. The seller doesn’t detail whether the automatic transmission still goes into gear but he has fixed up a battery and confirmed that most of the obvious power functions came back to life – he was even able to “pop” the rear hatch open. It’s always encouraging to see leather seats that aren’t torn up; perhaps this Corvette was loved before being parked in the garage for a few years?

The engine bay is clean and doesn’t reveal any obvious modifications. The Corvette is likely a pretty basic model as most of the factory suspension upgrades were offered later on in the C4’s production life. The seller confirmed the engine does rotate just a few inches by hand but that’s about it; there’s no indication as to whether any inspection of the engine oil or coolant was performed. Still, with no tacky modifications and strong cosmetics with what sounds like only superficial flaws, this is about as cheap as it gets for a modern muscle car that you can use every day without much fear of losing your shirt.

Man, no reserve is very gutsy for one of these. It’s probably worth less than the old folded up ping pong table sitting in the garage next to it.. But hey, why not? GLWTS!

With the price craziness going on with cars today, there is no such animal as a “cheap” Corvette anymore. You will pay one way or the other.

The C4 Corvette has proven immune to even this craziness lol!

Wow! Once you scroll though all of the pictures that is some Seller’s disclaimer at the end.

If you want a Vette to tinker with, this is the way to go, parts are relatively cheap for the early C4’s & it looks like this one isn’t stripped of all the important stuff, if I had any room, this one would be in my collection.

I have an 84 Corvette and I dont think it rides that bad. Great handling car and peak 80s vibe.

I know they are maligned but I find the performance decent and its fun to drive. When introduced the c4 was a technical and engineering marvel and I still consider it as such.

As a young teen I remember the first ‘84 Vette I saw up close and in person…. My grandmother’s neighbor brought one by that he was considering buying. It was white and had the manual tranny. I even remember the song playing on the radio when he started it up, “Too Shy” by Kajagoogoo. Later on she asked him if he was going to buy it. He said that he could afford the car but not the insurance so he passed.
