Nomadic Camper Combo! 1958 Chevrolet Nomad & Trailer

There is a really cool pair of Nomads up for sale and they will have you traveling the country in style! The car is a 1958 Chevrolet Nomad wagon, which is being sold with a 1969 Nomad camp trailer. They can be found here on eBay with a requested starting bid of $7,000. Located in McHenry, Illinois, that puts you just north of the end of historic Route 66. How cool would it be to take this combo on a tour of the country?

The interior of the Chevrolet is really neat and mostly original. The ad states that the car features manual steering and brakes along with an automatic transmission. Not too many other details are mentioned, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a fairly low-mileage survivor.

The camper is a matching-color Nomad Tag Along from 1969. It also features mostly original parts including propane lighting! You have to love the outdoor-themed curtains and bunk beds. Overall, this is a really cool combo that is sure to be a head turner wherever you go!

I think he would get more interest as a combo. The trailer even has a wet bath. Most trailers this size have chamber pots

Ah, the first year for the Nomad 4 door door wagon. Love the one year only 1958s. As for the trailer, watch out for Yogi and Booboo.

I’m a Blue Oval guy, but this would be a great combo! A little work and what a way to travel around and see the good old USA, one campground at a time! Love it!

Most people (myself included) consider the two-door ’55-’57 models the “real” Nomads. At least in those years they were uniquely different than the regular four-door wagon. Starting with the ’58, the Nomad was basically just the top trim above the Yeoman and Brookwood.

Regardless, it’s a very cool wagon.

I wouldn’t mind the car but they can keep the camper. When me and the wife were first married we took a trip from Aurora, Illinois to Branson, Missouri pulling one identical to that one with a 302 powered Bronco and that 302 labored hard in the Missouri hills, so I would expect that 283 wouldn’t fair much better with that trailer behind it.

Back when these cars were cheap and plentifuI, I always wanted to get a ’58 Nomad wagon and take all the Nomad trim off and install it on a ’58 Yeoman 2 dr wagon thereby making a ’58 Nomad 2 dr

That would have been cool. The ’58 two-door wagon was a rare beast.

That might have the 348, it was a torquer, truck engine.

This is a cool looking combo. But, if that car pulled that trailer with that engine and a power glide, then a power train swap is in order. More cubes (350) and a TH350 should do the trick. They both will need a serious bumper-to-bumper inspection. Not too bad of a price, but I would like to come down a bit…say, $5k for the two of them. Like any other 61 year old car, there will most likely be rust to deal with…and on the trailer, too. And that takes a lot of time and money. But, being car nuts, this is what we expect.

Bad thing about the 58 chevy and I never heard them called a Nomad when its a 4 door like this one. I had a 58 4 door hardtop. Also the 58 thru 64 chevy’s had a carrier bearing mid way up the drive shaft and they were a pain to change out if they ever went out and most them had a 348 or 409 engine. Some worked okay and some were ugly

I hear ya Dave, I changed a carrier bearing on a 60 Chevy for my sister back in 1970 and it was a PITA.

I like the car too, had a ’58 Del Ray, but I like the camper. As a kid my parents pulled a camper like this. Had a couple Shasta’s, and a Winnebago. I have vivid memories of the old man fighting the steering wheel in crosswinds, and trucks coming the other way on 2 lanes, would almost blow us off the road ( with the old man swearing), and constantly stopping for gas, which we liked, it got us out of the car. Hard to find decent campers like this today, as most became a poker shack in the woods, or homes to raccoons.
