A clean, honest Dodge Ramcharger is a thing of great beauty. This is a classic squarebody model, a genre of trucks that has been hot for some time. You could have ordered one with two-wheel-drive but a 4×4 was the hot ticket. While there were some rare special edition trims offered, any Ramcharger with four-wheel-drive will draw a crowd, and bidding for this North Carolina barn find offered here on eBay with no reserve has already reached $13,000.
It’s not hard to see why with that gorgeous cherry-red bodywork that doesn’t show much in the way of any ugly rust. While North Carolina is generally a safe bet for finding rust-free vintage machinery, it’s not a guarantee – so it seems likely that this Ramcharger was stored carefully for whatever period of time it was hidden away and earned its “barn find” status. The chrome bumpers are in good shape and the period-correct turbine-style wheels are perfect for the truck.
The interior is in fine shape as well, with tan cloth covering the factory bench seat. While we love seeing these trucks with factory buckets and a big center console, there’s something about the bench seat that just seems right at home in a Ramcharger of this vintage. The door panels and dash are in good condition with very few blemishes from soiling, which isn’t easy in a light-colored interior like this. The steering wheel shows little in the way of wear and tear, and the same goes for the door handles.
The 318 V8 isn’t a powerhouse but it should prove to be pretty cheap to live with. The seller indicates the odometer reading of 70,548 is accurate, and the cosmetic condition certainly seems to support that claim. The same goes for the engine bay, which isn’t overly clean but also doesn’t look like it’s been around the block multiple times. The paint inside the engine bay is another strong indiction of low mileage. Overall, this stock Ramcharger seems like a great buy as a starter classic or a smart investment in the booming rad-era truck class.
Autocheck clearly show major issue with odometer reading. At least 170 K
Wow! How much?
Had one for 9 years of trouble free driving , pulled, plowed , towed any thing I wanted , never let me down . this one is a good clean example , hope it finds a good home
love the wheels, seek them out for the rig to the right of this on the cover page. The 11, 15 spoke (ford’n dodge) of the era (“turbines”, ‘turbos’) were around a short while (late 70s/early 80s) and are therefore a real time signature. I like the limited number of spokes to these, think cheb had too many (30? 50?). Truck? like how the side windows go up far enuff to blend into the roof…
For some reason I never liked these, or the Blazer and Bronco of the same era. The ride was awful, they were gutless and they didn’t carry anything like a pickup did.
