Not A Chalet! 1978 Bronco + Hallmark RV

Considering the number of Chevrolet-based Chalets we have featured, I have wondered many times if there were a Ford competitor. As it turns out, there was (and is!) but it is actually a pop-up RV (raised position pictured above) that can be fitted to any truck. In this case, it’s been adapted to a 1978 Ford Bronco that has been listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding has already been driven to over $15,000! The Bronco is waiting for you in Tacoma, Washington if you are so inclined.

This is the lowered, or travel position. The seller tells us that there were few of these “Free Wheeling” editions made. There’s some rust in the floor boards that will have to be repaired but that the undercarriage is solid and I don’t see any exterior body rust. The truck is powered by the original 400 cubic-inch V-8 and the four-wheel-drive is functioning as it should.

Imagine my surprise while I was researching this rare find to discover that not only is Hallmark RV still in business, they are still making pop-up campers quite similar to the one on this Bronco! The one pictured above is just a little larger than the featured one and sells for around $45,000 without the truck!

This is what the inside of one of the current Hallmark offerings looks like. Pretty swanky! Unfortunately, the seller has not yet posted interior shots of either the Bronco or the camper as I write.

So what do you think? Is this how you want to camp with a vintage flavor? It sure looks like it’s a lot less expensive than a new one!

Awesome. Looks a lot better than the Blazer Chalets to me. Like the color, the stripes, wagon wheels…

Nice one, Jamie! I could not believe that there wasn’t one interior photo at all, good grief. It’s a cool rig, though.

This is very rare. It is the perfect size for us. However, someone already snatched it up.

4 me? better than a chalet. Less wind resistance on rd, lghter off rd/less tippy.
Course we get cold up here so gotta spend some $ to keep warm if “winter camping” (many do it).

“…what do you think?…” that this is a good size for me & I’d keep it pretty much as is depending on how out fitted (wheel, x-fer, interior equip). Also would want the ’79 oe glass top to come w/it (has the sliders). 400M is the largest “square” production motor.

Seller says: “Note…i will be taking many pictures once weather clears up enough”

Auction ends early. I even Google searched to try to find interior pics with no luck.
