Mopeds get a bad name for being for wimps, or those not experienced enough to ride a “real” motorcycle. I admit to never having ridden or owned one, but if I could find a nice one locally, I might grab it. This one isn’t actually a moped; it’s known by many as a “noped”, as in you don’t use pedals to move it or start it. This mystery year Suzuki FA50 is listed here on Facebook Marketplace in Kimberly, Wisconsin and the seller is asking $650. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Lothar… of the Hill People for the tip!
The seller doesn’t list a year for this Suzuki or show any numbers at all, so we don’t know when it was made or what year it is. Suzuki made them between 1980 and 1991, so I’m assuming it’s somewhere in the 80s, but that’s why I don’t gamble. Going by the odds doesn’t always yield the most accurate result. It could very well be a 1990 or 1991 model, not that it matters that much, really. You can see that the headlight is missing, and for a somewhat high asking price already, having to track down a headlight on top of that, and probably shipping, puts this one out of reach for a lot of buyers. If I were selling this one, I’d make sure to exhaust every single source to get that headlight installed pronto. They seem to be listed on eBay, and the seller says the wiring is there; get’r done.
For college students or almost anyone to run around the neighborhood, this 30-mph moped could do the trick. Step-through bikes get a bad rap for not being manly enough, but I couldn’t care less about any of that. I’d ride this and let my mustache blow in the breeze without a care in the world, other than the 4×4 pickup creeping up on me. If I were in college again, this would be a no-brainer. I mainly ride my weirdo tiny motorcycles around in a fenced-in storage facility, I don’t really have any place to ride a “slow” two-wheeler on a public street.
Is that 8,767 miles, or 867.7 miles? The former seems like a lot, and the latter seems like nothing. The engine is a Suzuki 49-cc reed-valve two-stroke single with 2.4 horsepower and 2.7-lb-ft of torque. It rolls through a single-speed transmission with a wet centrifugal clutch for easy riding, and it’s said to “run amazing.” Would any of you ride this noped if you had a spot to use it?
Looks like that rack is perfect for some bungy cords and a flat of Budweisers🍻
I like yer thinkin’, young man!
My lawnmower has more HP than that bike, but the bike has way more “cool factor”.
Ha, no doubt about the HP, your leaf blower may take it in a race.
I know it’s not a moped no pedals hence motorized pericycle, but it does. Remind me of an old joke. What does a moped and a fat woman have in common?
They’re both fun to ride, but you don’t want your friends to see you doing either one.
“Yippie Yie Yay, Cow Patty!” “On a moped she called, FLAME.” Yeah, it’s not really a moped but it’s close. I had a Honda Spree that I kept out at the lake to use to ride over to the convenience store or showers. The “Flame” moniker got attached to that scooter almost immediately.
Ha, a Jim Stafford classic!
