Off The Road Since ’73: 1969 MG Midget

Looking for an inexpensive project? This 1969 MG Midget find courtesy of Barn Finds reader Proston looks like it would be relatively straightforward to return to the road. The A-series engine is known to be a tough one, and it doesn’t even look like a lot has been taken off the car, although I’m hoping the grille is hiding in the trunk. It’s located in Grand Island, New York and is up for sale here on craigslist for only $750. The current owner has had the car in storage since they purchased it in 1981, and it’s actually been off the road since 1973 – which means the 54,258 miles on the odometer are probably real. I’m always surprised when I still fit in a Midget; maybe this could be the one that fits you?

For only being on the road 4 years, it looks beaten up. If the story is true, then it should be original. It does cause me to wonder why someone with a 4 year old car doesn’t fix or get it fixed.

54,000 miles in 4 years in an MG 45 years ago sure seems like a lot of driving ??

Price is cheap if there is no rust. Actually n9t a bad price even for a parts car. Rust is prohibitvely expensive to repair on these

They stopped putting the spear moulding on the hood midway through ’68, so I wonder about that inconsistency.

Grand Island is outside Buffalo NY, an area well known for salt usage so the body needs to be carefully checked. This isn’t far from where I live, anyone interested in having me take a look and get pictures? If it isn’t too rusty, this just may be worth it depending on what’s wrong with it. To make it a runner, it needs a lot of bits and pieces.
