Chevrolet introduced the third generation Camaro in 1982 with great fanfare. The second-generation design enjoyed a long life being introduced in 1970 and lasting all the way to 1981. The third generation design was quite a departure from the past just like the second generation was vastly different from the 1967-1969 first-generation Camaro. A little-known special edition of the third-generation Camaro was the Olympic Collectors Edition. This example is located near Madison, Wisconsin, and is for sale here on Craigslist. The seller is asking $9,800 and the car has been listed for about two weeks.
Most people are not even aware of this car. The car was built to commemorate the 1984 Winter Olympics that were held in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. It was RPO Code 1A3 and 3,722 examples were built in 1984. This car looks to be in great condition and has a reported 97,000 miles on the odometer. The Olympic Collectors Edition Camaro was white with orange and blue stripes with painted Z28 aluminum wheels. A decal comprised of the Olympic rings adorned the B-pillar along with the Sarajevo Olympics logo. The Olympic Collectors Edition Camaro was sold in November and December of 1983 and, to my knowledge, only available in the Sports Coupe trim.
The Olympic Collectors Edition was primarily a marketing (sticker and decal) edition as there was no special suspension or drivetrain options available. This car is equipped with a 2.8-liter V6 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. The seller states that the car starts, runs, and drives well. The Camaro is well equipped with options like air conditioning, cruise, tilt steering, sport mirrors, and rear spoiler. The interior looks a little sun-faded on the tops of the seats in the pictures but is said not to have any rips or tears. The seller states that the blue interior looks great and is not faded and it must be the lighting playing tricks. The dash is also in good condition.
The car was repainted by a prior owner. There are three bubbles under the paint when the seller is sure could be easily fixed. The car’s air conditioning has been upgraded to R134 refrigerant. The seller has recently repainted the alternator, battery, MAP sensor and has flushed the radiator. The price may seem a little high but the seller is willing to consider offers. So what is a special edition Camaro that no one remembers worth?
Man if I only had a 1984 Olympic Edition Camaro with a 2.8L V6 back in high school I’d have to beat the women off with a stick.
I doubt it.
I have a 1984 Camaro Olympic edition for sale 5,000
So does the Olympic pinstripe and emblems add to the value? Under the paint its still the same POS 2.8 v6
No.
A gem of a find. True car lovers will appreciate this item.

If I’m right, a GM 2.8 6cyl was used in some of the last AMC brand Jeep XJs in the 80s. If this 84 Camaro has the same engine that my 85 Jeep Wagoneer had, then yes, it was quite slow. But at least I had it on a 5spd manual transmission and a 4×4 vehicle with a lift kit installed. The Jeep was not that bad, and rare in the Wagoneer model. Too bad it did not have the 4.0 inline 6cyl instead then I might have kept it longer.
$9800 for a 2.8 with no ttops?!? Man, if this sells, I’m getting back into flipping cars!!!! I saw an equivalent optioned 2003 Hyundai Elantra with 90k on the clock for sale yesterday. It has “special” alloy wheels and a sunroof for $1350. I know it doesn’t have that torquey/powerful 2.8l but it definitely has rack and pinion steering and gets better gas mileage. I also think it’s super rare because it has pin striping and a couple of letters on the trunk lid that say “GLS”. Must be some commemorative edition. I’ll get at least $10,500 for it……right?!?!
Man, there really is one born every minute…..
Did the Yugo have a commemorative edition that year? :)
Yes, with a standard rear-window defroster to keep your hands warm while pushing it back home.
Nooooooo……I can’t own such rarities!!!!!
Awww, it’s already gone. My fuel injected V-8 restomod dreams are dashed. Had no idea this RPO existed, thanks for posting.
