One-Owner Barn Find: 1984 Cadillac Seville

Ah, the infamous “bustle back” Cadillac. This 1984 Cadillac Seville is a barn find but one that appears to be in very nice condition despite its years off the road. And if you scan the background, you’ll see it’s not alone in its exposed shed surrounds, with another vintage Cadillac coupe slumbering under a plastic sheet. Is this a home for lost and forgotten Cadillacs? here on eBay The Seville is listed with a reasonable asking price of $6,500 and the option to submit a best offer.

Is “reasonable” a stretch? Perhaps, but if the seller lets it go for less, I consider it a fair price given the condition we see on display here. The mileage is listed at 33,800 and the interior absolutely reinforces that reading. The chocolate brown leather is in outstanding condition with barely any wear evident, and the same goes for the carpet and steering wheel. While these cars were not anything you’d call a highlight for Cadillac, they at least looked and felt like a true luxury car inside and out.

The drivetrains were fairly anemic like so many other vehicles from this era, and that includes the competition from Europe. However, the Seville was loaded up with many innovative features that would eventually become standard equipment in luxury cars, with niceties like memory seats, a digital gauge cluster, and “puncture sealing” tires. The drivetrains ranged from 105 horsepower to 145,  encompassing six- and eight-cylinder powerplants along with an ill-fated diesel option.

Seeing owner’s manuals and information booklets in mint condition like the ones found in this car inspire further confidence that the odometer reading isn’t a fluke. This Seville may not be on every collector’s must-have list, but if you’re looking for a low-mileage project that could likely be fluffed and buffed and put back up for sale, this Seville is likely a safe, low-buck bet. However, if you just want a cruiser that won’t break the bank, it would also likely work quite well for that purpose, too.

105 hp with A/C on would be as quick as a 23 window VW Bus

A lot of ladies owned these Sevilles….and they generally weren’t racing from red light to red light.
A good bet this one was too…..due the light wear on the interior. Back when most ladies were on the thin side.

      Nowadays, she ain’t a lady unless she’s two-eighty.

Strange though, neither here or on Ebay is there one pic of the famous ‘bustle back’, which was the main exterior feature of these Caddies.
Of course it doesn’t run and it’s up against a wall.
I would have gotten a stock photo of the bustle back and posted it, with the caveat it was a stock photo.

Might be good to re-engine with a newer more efficient and powerful engine, but the price is too high for that.

Per the seller’s other items, the other car is a 71 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight.

My mother in law had a blue 84 Seville new. It sat in the garage. She paid a detailer to clean the car monthly. It was sold when she died in the early 90s with fewer than 6,000 miles. Never in rain, snow or allowed to long sun exposure. Diesel junk. Sold fir like $2,500. Total POS GM junk.

There does not seem to be a huge demand for Sevilles in this condition. There was one for sale locally for over a month in better condition than this one. It was part of an estate sale, had been parked for a while, but ran and drove. The sellers dropped the price to $2,500, and it likely sold for less than that.

I would have to get a personalized license plate for it. Some abbreviation of “Caught Dead” like COT-DED or similar, because I wouldn’t be caught dead driving that car.

Way,way, way overpriced. This baby just went for $3,700 at the Owlshead auction on Saturday. It runs and drives too https://www.proxibid.com/1983-Cadillac-Seville/lotInformation/70796325

Well, my wife’s 1984 Dodge Caravan had 105 HP and when merging onto the freeway, she had to turn the AC off. She would have smoked this Caddy. This cries out for a restomod.

People must be forgetting that the ht4100 is probably the worse motor ever made. Warranty companies wouldn’t even cover it. Commonly referred to as boat anchors.
