One-Owner Car: 1986 Honda Civic Si

We just featured a 1991 Honda CRX Si a few days ago and here is a somewhat similar 1986 Honda Civic Si. This fun little car is listed here on eBay in Hillsboro, Oregon with a current bid of just over $500 and a buy it now price of $4,995.

There’s something about driving a small car fast, you’ve all heard that saying. I think that it’s true. Driving a big, lumbering monster car in a straight line is fun, but for my money it doesn’t even come close to driving a small, crisp-handling car. Honda cut their teeth on that theory after cutting their teeth on MPG, and this car is the best of both worlds. The seller talks about how the former owner of this car, the only owner, explains the rear bumper damage, it: “was caused by the rear bumper being clipped in a parking garage. She reported it to her insurance and due to the low book value it was issued a restored title after the payout for bumper repair.” They further explain, “Her same Honda mechanic re attached the bumper as seen in photos with a bolt and is missing the trim piece.”

Now that’s a crisp design, but I’m guessing that some would say there isn’t much design at all. Honda introduced the CRX as a two-seater but they still made a four-seat Civic Si. The Si, or Sports Injected, model upped the ante a bit. Even though the Civic Si weighed around 100 pounds more than the CRX Si did, it still made many thousands of believers out of the nay-sayers who dismissed Hondas as cheap imports. They were not cheap imports anymore, this was a versatile, quick, reliable, and fun car to own and drive.

As much as I love a two-seater CRX I personally would rather have this Civic Si. There’s just something about that oddball breadbox styling that gets to me. And it can also haul more gear with the rear seats folded down, which they don’t show a photo of, unfortunately. The interior looks flawless to me other than on the side of the driver’s seat which should be an easy fix for any upholstery shop.

This is Honda’s 1.5L inline-four with just over 90 hp. The Civic Si got the same drivetrain as the CRX Si. The seller has a note from the original owner saying that it sometimes surges at idle, that’s most likely a vacuum issue or the idle air control valve. The timing belt was said to have been changed 30,000 miles ago. I really like this one but I would want it to be a jewel box so I’d have to get that rear bumper fixed and that wouldn’t be cheap. Have any of you owned a Civic Si?

Datsun B210 any one? This car reminds me of those early 70s Japanese cars. 80s Supras and Celicas, Mitsu Conquests and Eclipses. This car is unmolested and straight. Price is spot on for an oddball collection.

Reader Ad car becomes feature car.

I knew that I had read that description before. Call me a skeptic regarding the reason for the “Rebuilt, Rebuildable & Reconstructed” title.

Love to have one of these little roller skates. A lot of fun because they were light. Many would up being modified to meet certain classes for competition, including Acura motor swaps.

I had one, same year, same color while in college. It was a great little car, zippy and no maintenance. 10 years later, I saw it in the parking lot at my office – still running strong.

I had one once and loved it. Bought it used from a guy who told me he had just changed the timing belt. Drove it for a few months until one day it quit on the way to work. Opened it up and found a old and cracking timing belt that was probably the original. Everybody knows what happened so I won’t go into that.
Used replacement motors were uber $$$ so I reluctantly sold it sans motor.
Great little car. Whoever buys this one, change the belt. Don’t take anyone’s word it was recently changed.

It’s hardly “original” if it has a rebuilt title.

      170K.

Reserve still not met, bidding at $1575, well short of the $4995 BiN.

I had a silver one, in 87-93 that I drove like it was a Ferrari. Went through two clutches, drove it really really hard. Had a blast with it, great little car.
