One Owner, Low Miles: 1966 Chrysler 300

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Chrysler Letter-Series was launched in 1955 as a performance luxury car. It was produced through 1965 in relatively low numbers, with the suffix changing from year to year (ex., 300-C, 300-D, etc.). To give buyers a slightly less docile version of the car, Chrysler brought the 300 Sport Series out in 1962. In 1966, after the Letter Series was gone, the 383 would continue as the powerplant for the “regular 300,” which includes this solid, one-owner example. With less than 50,000 miles, this cool Mopar is in Orange Park, Florida, and is available here on craigslist for $47,500.

While the 300 had a 2-door hardtop and a convertible as part of the mix, a 4-door hardtop was also offered, unlike the Letter Series. The 300 was largely the same car as the Letter Series, which used a 440 cubic inch V8 in its final outing. We’re told this sharp, 59-year-old Chrysler is a one-owner car, which may indicate this is an estate sale opportunity (just a guess, as the original owner would surely be at least in his/her 80s).

Chrysler built 24,103 2-door hardtops of the 300 in ’66. No mention is made of a restoration pertaining to this Mopar, so perhaps the body panels, paint, interior, and drivetrain are all original (and “like new”). The odometer reads 47,000 miles, which implies a sheltered life over the decades. This well-equipped Chrysler is an unmodified car, and everything works as it should, including the radio.

The seller has retained an inventory of receipts, though we don’t know what they cover besides maintenance. We’re told the Chrysler needs nothing but a new home, and the seller can help with delivery. Trades are not out of the equation, and the seller provides a list of collectible cars he/she would consider, like a ’63 Corvette or a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge. Thanks for the cool tip, Rocco B.!

According to Hagerty, this car is priced exactly TWICE what a concours example should cost. So, find yourself a concours example, pay 24K, and keep the change!

No matter how nice, this is an eye wateringly high price.

Like said above, it’s hard to see it pull anywhere close to the asking price. Before the internet had widespread adoption it was understandable people would have asking prices untethered from reality, those days are long gone, someone should at least be able to get close with just a few minutes of effort.

$47,500! 😲 I’ve got bridges in New York and San Francisco I’d gladly sell for that amount. Just call me at Samples Sales BR 549! Besides, I never liked that wedge shape roof. I’ll even throw in a turkey! BR 549. Call NOW!

Since this doesn’t even have buckets and console that a 300 would normally have, it’s a hardtop Newport with slightly fancier badging. Even the engine could be had in various Chrysler and Dodge offerings. They are trying to sell the “300” name with that ridiculous price. Knock it down to $20k and someone might buy it.

Interesting that it doesn’t have AC, and that the hoses to the heater core are missing.

Way overpriced and he would trade for a 63 vette or a 70 Judge I’m sure anyone with a split window will be ringing his phone right away

Talk about excellent ROI…this car, if it receives asking price, would generate the owner $1,000 per every thousand miles he drove it!

Like New?? Hardly. And what’s with the rattle can silver painted trans pan, cross member and drive shaft?? Not well optioned and not overly desirable.

Is Marijuana legal in Florida? Or does everyone just go out into the Gulf of America to find a bundle?

For perspective, locally, a dealer SOLD a 62 300 CONVERTIBLE in RED with all options including air, pw, power bucket seats etc in perfect condition for under 30K

I think someone has to send this seller a list of other cars that 47K will buy. Hopefully, with pictures included, so this clueless person can visually see how overpriced this is.

Love these old Chryslers but what meds are people on these days??
I noticed a bunch of issues right off the bat, least of which being the heater hoses to nowhere….
I’m surprised Russ didn’t make a typo in the price itself, due to uncontrollable laughter, while writing the story.
