One Owner Space Cab: 1986 Isuzu Pickup

Talk about extinct: this highly original 1986 Isuzu P’up Space Cab is wearing tired paint but is also the desirable 4×4 spec with a manual transmission. Throw in the extra space behind the seats and you have a vintage Japanese pickup just the way we’d spec it from the factory. Find this oddball Isuzu pickup here on eBay with an opening bid of $999 and the reserve unmet.

We’ve spotted a few of these Isuzus over the years, but running, driving examples are few and far between. The raised roof and lots of cabin glass definitely give it a distinctive look, but we’d bet that side and rear glass is impossible to find if you end up cracking one of them. Aside from the faded paint, everything else looks straight and true – though the seller doesn’t work too hard to convince potential buyers of this. The multi-toned paint was typical of the era, so we hope you like earth tones.

The interior presents quite well, even better than expected considering the light upholstery colors and door panels. It is said to be a one-owner example and rust-free, no doubt helped by West Coast location. The Isuzu was known for years to the US market as part of its rebranding under the Chevrolet Luv moniker. After the partnership on that variant expired, Isuzu continued to sell its dependable pickup line stateside, though arguably in far fewer numbers after losing GM’s sizable marketing budget.

Wow – this engine bay is even cleaner than expected for a truck with near 200K on the clock. I can forget about the paint fade with an engine bay where previous owners weren’t afraid to get in and detail (or the seller did it – either way, it’s encouraging to see). The 2.3L gasoline four-cylinder is sometimes the less desirable motor since a stout diesel mill was available, but hey – that’s what engine swaps are for. If the reserve is reasonable, this looks like a fun project.

Wow, that roof is wild! Side glass is super flush. Very cool truck. Yeah, wish it was a diesel, but underhood is spotless! Cool find.

Isuzu really built a big name for themselves with these and Troopers. Very dependable trucks, too bad they only lasted 3-4 years in the salt bath. This the nicest I’ve seen in years. If an automatic, that truck would be sold.( to me)

Yep, when I was living on the east coast, I bought one in a non-space cab configuration and it turned into a rust bucket pretty quickly. This is a great find for a small truck fan.
