Beginning in 1995, the full-size Chevrolet Blazer SUV was rebranded as the Tahoe, a nameplate that lives on today. The first generation lasted through the balance of the century and included a 2-door, 2-wheel-drive version that the seller recently brought out of long-term storage. It was cleaned up and shipped off to Glendale, Arizona, where it’s now available here on craigslist for $26,500. Said to now be in great cosmetic and mechanical condition, this Chevy is another great tip from our friend T.J.!
The Tahoe was a badge-engineered version of the GMC Yukon. As such, both were big and roomy (and likely not too generous with a gallon of gasoline). From what we can tell, the 4-door versions of the Tahoe were more popular for hauling around families, so that may support the seller’s claim that this 2-door is rare (it’s also 2WD whereas a lot of Tahoes were 4WD because they were placed into service where that was needed to get around).
We’re told this Tahoe was specially ordered by the original owner, who may be the party who put it up for sale. It’s got every goodie you can imagine, including leather upholstery. For whatever reason, it was put into storage 16 years ago and not brought back out until recently. The old girl seems to have cleaned up nicely with shiny original black paint and no visible rust at 70,000 miles. The only addition to the way it was built was the Super Sport wheels.
Possibly to get it going again, the seller has changed out the fuel pump and injectors, the gas tank, radiator, and brakes. Also, the tires have practically no miles on them. We assume that’s the 5.7-liter Vortec engine under the hood, paired up with an automatic transmission. That combination should be good for 255 horses. The seller is not anxious to let this SUV go, so family circumstances must have changed. It looks like a lot of “truck,” but has it been priced at market or for sentimental reasons?
That is a cool lead photo, showing the unmolested dust from years of storage. It’s a good way to help tell the vehicle’s story, using “before” and “after” pics.
Seems a bit steep for a 2 wheel drive . It’s a good find but it’s not mint condition, and may or may not run? Love the old Tahoes but wow this 1 is way above price IMO
A lot of money for 70k 30 year old 2wd truck.
Neat find, cool truck, but it has 70K on it so hardly an almost new find. Being 2wd basically makes it nothing more than a station wagon. Just don’t see it for the money. They made so many of these and many in dry climates I can’t see the ask here as anything but ridiculous.
I love these 2-WD Tahoe’s! I have owned one and I wish I had kept it. They have a big following of certain types of car guys, like me. The rest don’t get it, I understand that, If you don’t like it, you are not hurting their popularity. I just looked at this particular Tahoe a couple of days ago, it is in Arizona. It is also probably the most original one, I have ever seen. At first glance I thought it was 4-WD. The 2-WD are rare and almost all of them have been modified. If your plan would be to keep this one all original, I doubt you could find one better. I am not sure if the market would support the 27 K you would pay for this one. I do follow these trucks and I have yet to see them go down in value! To customize one could be an easy 10 to 20 K investment, so the asking price on this one is high, if you plan on changing it at all. The math doesn’t work for me otherwise, I would own it.
The 1990’s 2 door Tahoe/Blazers have been increasing in value for several years. A 2 wheel drive is especially rare, if the mechanicals are sorted out and it is as nice as it looks in the pictures he posted it could probably get close to his asking price. This platform accepts any modification that generation of pickup does. First thing I’d do is swap out the wheels, they do nothing positive for its appearance and someone with an SS will likely be willing to overpay for a nice set of originals.

I had 1999 four door with 4wd. It was a pleasure to drive. It averaged about 16 mpg which beats the heck out of my current truck, a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 club cab 2wd with the 5.2 liter (318ci) engine. I am lucky to see 12mpg. Unfortunately rust destroyed the underside of my Tahoe. Frame, front suspension and steering and most importantly the brake lines. It was probably self inflicted by too much time spent in the Outer Banks on the four wheel drive beach. This is a nice ride. I always liked the proportions of the two doors. GLWTS.
My BIL had a ’96 2 door Tahoe, 4wd. He moved from Vermont to Florida. And thought he’d have a problem selling it down there. The locals were having a bidding war over the thing.
I had a 99 2 door 4WD. And yes, as Steve R mentioned, the value for the 2 doors has been increasing for years. Lowered it with a Bell Tech system and added dual exhaust. Black, tan interior, and added later model new take off Silverado wheels. Super reliable and good looking truck. Only sold it as I was moving and short wheelbase trucks aren’t great for towing. Took me a minute to figure that one out.. creative! I had a 98…
