Chevrolet got into the mid-size automobile market in 1964 with the Chevelle. The Malibu was the top-of-the-line model and dominated sales. With a restyle in 1966, the Sport Sedan body style was added (Chevy-speak for 4-door hardtop). That offering continued when the cars were redesigned in 1968. The seller has a one-owner Sport Sedan that’s described as a great daily driver, so it’s rough around the edges, mostly with the interior. Located in Perris, California, the car is available here on craigslist for $6,700, with the inclusion of the wheels in the photos being in question. An attaboy goes to Tony Primo for another vintage tip!

The second generation of the Chevelle (1968-72) was perhaps its most successful. Although they sold a bundle of them from the Colonnade generation that followed (1973-77), too. Under the Malibu umbrella, the Sport Coupe was the best seller at 180,000 V8-equipped editions in 1968 (excluding the Super Sport). The Sport Sedan paled by comparison at 15,000 copies, so they come along in smaller numbers these days. Four doors aren’t always cool, but these Sport Sedan hardtops might change your mind.

This Chevelle was fairly routine when new. It has a 307 cubic inch V8 and an automatic transmission (2-speed Powerglide?). We believe this is a numbers-matching car where it counts at 85,000 miles. No factory air conditioning, and the valve covers have been painted black rather than orange/red, so maybe the gaskets have been replaced, and the seller got out the rattle can.

As a daily driver, some minimum rust is said to be here and there, and the driver’s side front fender looks to have a crease in it from a parking lot altercation. At the asking price, it’s unclear whether two sets of wheels or one come with the car, as the amount doesn’t change with the aftermarket wheels. And it looks like the front seats were reupholstered at some point, as the fabric is not the same color as the rear. But both sets need a makeover, as does the carpeting and dash pad.

The 68-69 body style make me really appreciate the changes made for 1970.
IMO that’s a pretty good price. ….Prices on these clasics have been insane. …..I’ve seen total junk on here go for more than their asking for this car. ….Just drive this car and enjoy.
It has been a long while since I’ve happened past a ‘68 Sport Sedan! Great write up, nice looking car at a reasonable ask.
This would be a lot rarer than just about any 2 door of this model…and for the money would be fun to have and just drive! You sure wouldn’t be liable to be parked beside 3 or 4 others very much like it at a car show! Could be juiced pretty easily and definitely a sleeper…
Not perfect, but not a lot of money for a sharp car. I think it looks good in its own right, apart from the coupes. I’d drive this proudly.
another 1, put the wheel/tires on that go with the car on before you take your pics.
Neat find. The last 4dr hardtop I recall was a ’72 back in 2020. Car was for sale in mid Michigan and looked pretty nice. Weren’t these still refered to as a Concourse before being applied to the wagon?
I’ve always liked the mid-size 4-door hardtop GM cars ’68-’72, with an extra nod to the Concours Malibu & the Luxury Lemans. The ’66-’67 not so much because the roofline is too squared off at the back.
As for our subject, for starters, reupholster the seats, new carpet and, maybe have the dash recovered.
As usual, no pics of the underside.
I like it!
Nice crew cab.
Nice car for the money, needs carpet, steering wheel, & seat covers replaced. Could make a great driver even though it’s a 307/PG. He must have sold it ~ the listing has been removed from Craigslist.
Funny, I consider myself an almost car expert and I don’t remember the Chevelle 4 door hardtop. The 4 door sedans were somewhat ugly, but this looks good to my old eyes now.
Gone.
A Chevelle that is actually realistically priced? Wow!
No surprise it is gone already.
And a good thing too. That last check of Craigslist would have ended up with me pulling the trigger and a not so fun conversation with my wife…
I hear that.
