One Owner to 2025: 1967 Chevrolet Impala SS 396

Chevrolet released the Super Sport in 1961 as a performance version of the Impala. The following year, the car became more about style, and any Chevy drivetrain could be ordered. Demand began to decline as the decade wore on, with the same emphasis being applied to intermediates and compacts. This 1967 Impala is an SS 396 with a 4-speed manual transmission and is a one-owner vehicle parked in 1979. Located in Greensboro, North Carolina, this matching numbers project is available here on eBay for $14,850 OBO. Another great tip from….who else….”Curvette”!

The entry point for a 396 cubic inch V8 in a Chevrolet in 1967 was rated at 325 hp, and there were options even more robust. But wouldn’t 325 horsepower with a 4-speed be ample in a heavy Impala like this? The lady passed away in 2025 and hadn’t driven the automobile in 46 years. The mileage is around 46,000, and we understand the reason for the car being parked was rising gas prices (the second OPEC wave came in ’79). Since the car has been sitting forever, it doesn’t run or drive.

Photos are plentiful on this Impala, and there is ample rust in the sheet metal (and perhaps it goes deeper). The blue paint is at the patina stage, and the matching interior is ready for a redo. The seller recommends a rotisserie restoration, which means acquiring the car could be the smallest cash outlay. Naturally, the SS has bucket seats, a center console, and optional fender skirts that were included in the original 1967 purchase.

Not everything that came with the car when new is still around, but none of them are major. Missing parts include one piece of door glass, two center caps, three floor mats, three wheels, the fan shroud, and the keys (a search is underway). The Chevy was sold two weeks after Christmas, going into 1967, in High Point, North Carolina. There’s a dent in one rear quarter panel and door. The seller believes there is no filler in any body pieces. Who’s up for bringing this beast back to its former glory?

When I saw the first picture, I considered paying BIN price immediately and suffer the wife’s wrath later. Have wanted one of these since our next-door neighbor used to drive us to school in their 67-butternut yellow 327 Impala with black interior. Mom and her were switching out every other day so we all rode in that or our 65 Super Sport. But after clicking on the remaining pics, this thing has sat too long outside. You can snatch one in good condition for $32-$45K. You will invest at least an additional 80 getting this one up to snuff.

I’m thinking the one owner title would make zero sense on something this far gone, but what do I know.

Oooof. Great story, terrible condition. No way this is worth it from any restoration angle unless you’re the original owner and are saving it for sentimental reasons, and to fine yourself for letting it get so far gone!
