Only 2,700 Miles? 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400

Before the Trans Am appeared in 1969, the hottest pony car offered by Pontiac was the Firebird 400. The Firebird was new in 1967 (along with the Chevy Camaro) and the 400 edition came with, well, a 400 cubic inch V8 that produced 325 hp. This ’67 Firebird 400 is a beauty, but the seller leaves out two important words in his/her listing: neither “original” nor “restored” appear anywhere and the claimed mileage is but 2,700. Located in Alvin, Texas, this nifty Pontiac is available here on eBay where bidding is surprisingly low at $18,800 – so far.

Along with the big engine, the Firebird 400 came with dual exhaust, the option of a TH-400 automatic transmission, and some improvements in the handling department. It sounded like quite a bargain at just $274 extra over the base six-cylinder Firebird in 1967. A lot of buyers agreed as nearly 38,000 Firebird 400s were delivered in the car’s first year. As it turns out, the 400 in the Firebird was a slightly reworked version of the one in the GTO that delivered 10 fewer horses to stay within GM’s engine policy of the day. The Firebird 400 could be ordered with Ram Air, but the seller makes no mention of that with this car and surprisingly provides no photos under the hood of this stellar car (no VIN either).

This is a well-equipped Firebird with a long list of options which include a limited-slip differential, 15” Rally II wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, factory air conditioning, power windows, and a removable center armrest with cup holders (looks like an aftermarket product). The red paint sparkles (whether a repaint or original) and the black vinyl top and interior appear flawless from what we can tell.

Could this be a true low mileage survivor that has been treated with kid gloves or is it a restoration that may have been conducted on a lower-level Firebird to create a 400 clone? We don’t know, and this is pure speculation. But either way, it looks like one sweet ride that comes with a spare set of wheels. The seller is not interested in any trades.

Ahhh the Firebird 400, they don’t seem to get the love they deserve. Who couldn’t see those firebird marker lights & think this car was a cut above? Not crazy about the roof treatment but checks all the other boxes including A/C! Too bad no engine pictures though.

That’s 127k on the odometer, and actually the th350 was the better trans for the 400 Pontiac, the th400 is a soft shifting trans that was made for full size GM cars and Cadillacs.A shift kit or reverse manual valvebody is the best thing for the th400 trans in any high performance application.

No vin number or engine photos why? The seller said it’s a 400 it could be a 350. I believe the car itself is 127,000 miles and that it was restored showing the lower mileage. The engine compartment tells the story. Buyer beware.. 🐻🇺🇸

Humm…I’d be cautious. An Ebayer with (0). Something doesn’t add up here. Listed description is vague..lack of proper pics to go with the ad. If I had this vehicle listed…I’d have a very descriptive listing. The more you add the more attention I attracts. As they say on the Shark Tank. ” I’m out”..lol

Small detail, but that big, clunky arm rest/console isn’t original.

I believe this is the same car. A google search led me to “Muscle Vintage Cars”with what sounds like a honest description, this is a brief snapshot of that description… 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 Vin 223377U131954. Asking price $10,400, Refurbished, Oil Change May 2023, finished in red 2006 and the OD 2700, true mileage is unknown!
