Oozing Character: 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

The owner of this 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup says that it is oozing with character, and that is about the most accurate description that you could give to this old girl. Every now and then a vehicle comes along that I would desperately like to have in my workshop, and this is one of those. If you want to make me seriously jealous, then start bidding on the Pickup, as the price is sitting at $5,100 with the reserve unmet. Located in Farmington, Arkansas, you will find this old Pickup listed for sale here on eBay.

The look of this Pickup is just awesome. I hesitate to use the word patina because I know that some of our readers really hate the term, but the fact is that this vehicle has it in abundance. The owner says that the frame is solid, but there are a few minor rust spots to deal with. Otherwise, it’s just a great looking vehicle, and those old school chrome wheels set it off perfectly.

The news under the hood is all good as far as the Pickup is concerned. Somewhere out there in the big wide world, a 1967 Corvette has been kind enough to donate its 327ci V8 to the Pickup. This is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine wears headers and a dual exhaust, and the seller says that it sounds and drives brilliantly. He also says that the rear brakes are great, but the fronts do need a little work.

In this interior shot, you can see one of the sections of rust in the floor that will need to be repaired. This is a pretty common sight, and there’s a chance that there may be rust in the other cab corners that will need to be fixed. The rest of the interior looks quite serviceable as it is. If this Pickup was mine, I’d fix the rust, put down some Dynamat, throw a rubber mat over it, and wouldn’t touch another thing. It’s got a great look to it that’s in keeping with the rest of the vehicle.

Don’t tell my wife, but I think that I’m in love…with a 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup. This is a great vehicle that could be driven and enjoyed as it is. The only things that really need to be attended to are the rust in the floors and the front brakes. Returning to the start of this story, I think that this is a Pickup that does ooze charm.

I thought this one had been a Barn Find before, and I was right. Nice-looking truck, but a bad idea for a flip.

yes, featured Dec 25th, guessing someone flaked out as they said the reserve was met last time. But why keep featuring the same vehicles? (unless a paid advertisement)

Because it’s been a couple of months, new people join and others don’t look at every single feature. Infrequent repeats are appreciated by some of us.

DKW, well it IS a nice truck without a doubt, and when something is exceptional, and WORTH repeating then a more appropriate write up might be… “Update” or ” Back on the market” Because its not unheard of over the years for a vehicle to get sold multiple times. I keep a registry of certain rare motorcycles as do many others and one reason is when certain claims are made about its history or authenticity, we can offer proof. “Trust but verify!”
However my take is,,, there are THOUSANDS of cool vehicles out there and BF only features a small slice of the pie, Rather than see the same ones over and over,, maybe here is an idea,, do ONE posting called “Follow up” or “Since you were wondering….” or as Andy Rooney famously used to say “Now, you know the rest of the story” for reposting vehicles that pop back up for sale or failed for some reason.
Certainly could be some work without a doubt, But the way I would write it is something like this….
“We saw this back in Sept, Dec and now back with different description and pix. Seems the seller finally took those engine bay pictures we all were hoping to see but the location is different so perhaps this was a buyers regret quick sale? Still a very interesting car, Recommend FPI! Update us members if one of you goes to look or takes this beauty home! “

The 4-speed manual transmission surely didn’t come from the Corvette that donated the 327… that looks like a top loader truck transmission to me, so no power shifting this thing unless you swap the trans for something else. Neat truck though.

I’d drive the heck out of it just as it is!!
    (…after addressing the front brakes.)
It will be interesting to see what it the bidding gets up to…. :-)

You better look twice at the engine. 67 did not have soil filler tube in the intake and 58 was the last year for stagrrd bolts for the valve covers.

Not to be picky, but are you really sure about the oil filler tube? The 327 in my Impala was decoded to a 67 275hp out of a full-size series car, and it had that filler tube.Cannot remember if the intake belonged to that engine originally though…? This may only be a regular 327 with the Vette valve covers added.
Doesn’t really matter that much, a 327 mated to a(ny) manual will always be a nice package

Can we replace the term patina with character? I could even live with ‘oozing with character’.

Man… get rid of the rust with a beautiful paint job and this would be one fine truck. Personally I think it is one of the most beautiful body styles GM ever made.
