Original 1985 Nissan 720 DX King Cab 4×4

Made in Smyrna, Tennessee along with several other Nissan models, this 1985 Nissan 720 DX 4×4 King Cab is one crazy nice “100% original” truck that appears to be in outstanding condition inside and out. I believe it’s a DX model and having the extra space of the King Cab is great. The seller has it listed here on eBay in Tacoma, Washington, there is no reserve, and the current bid price is $8,528.

The seller has knocked it out of the park with photos on this gorgeous 4×4. They have included a ton of great photos and this is the one to grab if anyone is looking for an old-school Nissan pickup in 4WD. The topper, or cap, is a nice feature as well and it looks super clean in there. The condition of this truck will amaze you. Quite often we see somewhat rusty and ratty examples of these trucks but every once in a while a gem pops up. The underside shows how nice this rig really is.

A friend who was a designer at Nissan’s California location referred to the pre-Hardbody Nissan pickups as being pragmatic, no-nonsense trucks for farmers and ranchers. I like the D21 Hardbody pickups, but I actually prefer these older square 720s, they remind me of my 1980 Dodge (Mitsubishi) D-50 Sport pickup. They’re somewhat crude even in top trim levels but are “good enough” – the mantra of the upper Midwest where I grew up.

The woodgrain trim throws me a bit, I thought that was only available on the luxury-oriented XE, but I still think this is a DX model. One of you may know for sure by the other details. The XE had chrome bumpers and mirrors and this one has black-painted bumpers and mirrors, and I believe the XE only came in 2WD. As with the interior, the interior looks almost like it was just assembled in the factory and then stored for 38 years. The King Cab area behind the front seats is big enough for a couple of passengers if need be.

The super clean engine should be Nissan’s Z24, a 2.4-liter SOHC two-plugs-per-cylinder inline-four, which was factory-rated at 104 horsepower and 134 lb-ft of torque. It sends power through a five-speed manual to either the rear wheels or all four wheels through a divorced (separate from the transmission) transfer case. As expected, the seller says this one runs great and everything works as it should. If I were looking for the nicest vintage Nissan 4×4 pickup, this would be it, and it’s from my favorite area of the U.S. for vehicles, the Pacific Northwest, where interiors don’t fry and vehicles tend to stay rust-free. Have any of you owned a 720 pickup?

Love it. Ideal little rig. Never had a car or truck w twin plug setup…But have em on a motorbike and a small outboard 2 stroke, both run great 👍

Thats a tiny “king cab”. Since then, the average American body size has grown from large to jumbo. Today’s “king cabs” have alot more room for jumbo American bodies.

I had a 81 720 King Cab. It had 4 cyl and 8 spark plugs. Should have never sold it, but I was 17 at the time….

Used to own one of these when I was in the Corps. Put 250K miles on it. One of the better trucks I owned, only issues I had with it were self inflicted. Good times. This one looks like its in great shape.

Ended $11,112 I redid one of these three years ago. Body, paint, and interior. Ran excellent, was able to get 4,000 out of it, they are great trucks.

I used to have an 81 blue 720 King Cab with factory sunroof, shell with carpet kit and booted pass thru rear window into the back. made a nice 6 ft bed for travelling. Lock the tailgate and rear window and crawl thru cab window at rest stops for a secure nap. Wife parked it in the wrong spot one night before I got back from west pac cruise in 1990 and was stolen, never recovered. was a nice truck and went anywhere I pointed it, good off roar vehicle.

I have never owned one of these trucks, but this one is the real deal. I believe the seller when he states the milage is correct, and all original.
It’s good to see an ad for a vehicle where the seller is being honest and transparent.
I see why it brought over $11,000.00.
    Just my oponion!
