Some classics present so beautifully that they almost knock your socks off. Such is the case with this 1967 Ford Mustang GTA. Faithfully restored in 2005, its almost faultless appearance suggests it has been the seller’s prized and cherished possession since the work ended. It retains its numbers-matching S-Code V8 under the hood, and is a turnkey proposition. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Curvette for spotting the GTA listed here at Hemmings in Parma, Ohio. Bidding sits below the reserve at $41,000 as the auction heads into its final days.

I always find it challenging to write about classics like this Mustang because I have a leaning towards almost any car wearing a Blue-Oval badge. It emerged during a year when Ford performed its first major upgrade to its mega-successful model, and it was cars like this that prompted that change. Based on the Falcon platform, the largest and most potent engine Ford had been able to slot under the hood of the Mustang was its K-Code 289. However, by increasing the dimensions slightly, a world of larger powerplants was opened to Mustang buyers. The seller indicates that this GTA received a fresh coat of its original Wimbledon White during its 2005 restoration. They media-blasted the underside, applying a sealing coat that has kept the vehicle rust-free. The paint shines extremely well, with only a few minor nicks and chips. The contrasting Red stripes look crisp, and Ford’s beautiful styled steel wheels look perfect. Throw in arrow straight panels, clear glass, and sparkling chrome, and this Mustang makes a stunning first impression. However, this classic is more than a pretty face.

Larger engines? In 1967, the S-Code 390 replaced the 289ci K-Code as the range-topping motor. Delivering a factory-claimed 320hp and 427 ft/lbs of torque, it could leave the 289 eating its dust. This car retains its numbers-matching 390, also featuring a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power front disc brakes. The seller confirms the presence of an oil drip from the engine’s rear main seal, but that appears to be the only shortcoming. The Mustang runs and drives well, as demonstrated in the listing’s embedded video.

It appears that the first owner wished to create a “total” package when ordering this Mustang. They equipped the interior with air conditioning, the Sport Deck rear seat, a swing-away wheel, an overhead console with map lights, an AM radio/8-track player, and a center console with storage and warning lights. The Red vinyl trim complements the exterior stripes, and its condition is impressive. There is no genuine wear, and no signs of abuse. The rear passenger compartment plastic is prone to age damage and deterioration, but this car hasn’t suffered that fate. Overall, the condition is consistent with that of a high-end driver.

This 1967 Mustang GTA appears to need nothing, and the original owner’s choice of factory options helps an already stunning classic to stand out in any crowd. The listing suggests that no stone was left unturned during its restoration, helping to explain why this GTA has generated enormous interest since hitting the market. Considering its overall condition and the S-Code lurking under the hood, I believe that the bidding should comfortably surpass $70,000 before the hammer falls. A higher figure is definitely possible, but what would you pay for this classic?

Stunning Ford, love the rare 390 Mustangs. Not a fan of any leaks. Autoloader and open 3.00 diff indicates mostly boulevard and hwy intentions by original buyer.
