This 1979 Chevrolet Corvette is a survivor with a known ownership history. The first owner’s decision to order this classic with the optional L82 version of Chevrolet’s small-block V8 provides a welcome performance boost. Its exterior presents nicely, but its interior is simply stunning. The seller recently invested a considerable sum below the surface, ensuring that the new owner slips behind the wheel of a turnkey classic. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Jack M. for spotting this Corvette listed here on Craigslist in St. Louis, Missouri. The seller set their price at $15,900 for a classic needing nothing.

This Corvette has quite an interesting backstory. Ordered by the owner of Alison Haggerty Chevrolet in East Chicago, Illinois, the car remained part of that family for over forty years. They equipped the ‘Vette with the optional front and rear spoilers, along with the aluminum wheels. The Classic White paint is subtle, and the seller claims that, apart from a few minor touch-ups, it is original. The photos don’t do it justice because the exterior shines nicely, and the fiberglass is in good condition. Climbing beneath this classic demonstartes the life the car has led. The underside shots reveal a rock-solid frame and no evidence of rust or other problems. Even surface corrosion isn’t an issue, suggesting that the owners have protected this Corvette from the worst that Mother Nature can throw at it. There is no evidence of T-Top leaking, and the glass and wheels are in great shape.

If this Corvette’s exterior makes a positive statement, the interior lifts that impression to a far higher level. Trimmed in Red leather, it appears to be in as-new condition. The seller recently installed a retro-style stereo, which appears to be the only aftermarket addition. The listing indicates an unverified odometer reading of 37,500 miles, and the interior certainly makes the figure plausible. The leather isn’t worn, even on the outer seat edges that are prone to wear. The carpet is spotless, and the wheel is perfect. Overall, it should win nothing but praise at any Cars & Coffee. It also has a few welcome factory features, including air conditioning, power windows, power locks, and a tilt/telescopic wheel.

Having been ordered by a dealership owner as personal transport, it is unsurprising that this Corvette features a range-topping motor under the hood. The first owner equipped the car with a 350ci V8, a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. They could have settled on the L48 version of Chevrolet’s iconic small-block, but ticked the box for the more desirable L82 version. This placed 225hp and 270 ft/lbs of torque at the driver’s disposal, providing impressive performance by the standards of the era. The seller has invested a considerable sum into this car’s mechanical components during the last two years, and the buyer will reap the benefits. They have replaced almost the entire brake system, the radiator, alternator, shocks, and the rear spring. They installed a new dual exhaust and a list of other components. That leaves the new owner with nothing to do but to slip behind the wheel and enjoy the ride. It is missing the ignition shroud and doesn’t wear the correct air cleaner, but addressing those potential shortcomings would be a piece of cake.

The known ownership history of this 1979 Corvette is reassuring and may make it easy to confirm whether the car is a genuine survivor. The same is true of the odometer reading, which is exceptionally low. It has no apparent needs, and the L82 under the hood is the icing on the cake. The vehicle would be worth more if it featured a four-speed manual transmission, but even with the three-speed automatic, the seller’s price looks very competitive. The new owner may elect to reverse the few minor changes to recapture the car’s factory form, but that could happen as time and circumstances allow. Otherwise, they could slip behind the wheel, reveling in the classic motoring experience. That sounds pretty tempting to me.

My 1978 was identical to this except i had the L48 Smoke glass t-tops and the anniversary badging.Otherwise absolute visual twin inside and out.I had mine from 1989 to 2015,had to sell as i moved into a condo from my house and lost garage :(
After owning a 1977 Corvette, I would never consider another one. While it was fun, it was the biggest piece of junk I’ve owned in all my years.
