Original Orange Paint: 1977 Chevrolet Corvette

Chevrolet produced over 4,000 examples of America’s sports car in the attention-getting Corvette Orange (code 66) color in 1977, but it’s been quite a while since I’ve spotted one running around, and its one of those hues that really stands out in a crowd when compared to some of the other finish options buyers had to choose from during that period.  This 1977 Chevrolet Corvette here on eBay is a mostly original example, and although it’s not perfect, the original engine is still present with just 60,000 miles of operation.  If you’ve been seeking an affordable C3, this one might be worth checking out, as it’s priced at one dollar shy of ten grand.  However, there’s also an opportunity to make a lower offer.  Head on over to Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, to meet with the seller in person to see if this ‘Vette is right for you.

The 1977 model featured a couple of end of the roads for the C3, including being the last year the two-seater came with a flat rear window before gaining a more fastback appearance with the increased glass size for the 25th anniversary the following year.  After ‘77, it wouldn’t be until the debut of the C6 in 2005 that orange became available again as an exterior color offering.  The seller says his car spent much of its life in Arizona, and while it’s a plus that the paint is original, there are a few imperfections along with some fading.  However, considering the age, the outside still presents decently, so the next owner won’t need to be in too much of a hurry to apply a fresh coating.

The mid-to-late seventies aren’t a time when most autos seem to be fondly remembered for their performance specs, and by 1977, the Corvette was down to only two engine choices.  Both were V8s of the 350 variety, with the base 180 horsepower L48 found under the hood here.  The seller says his car was running well when he stopped driving it last fall, and with such low mileage, there’s a good chance that there’s some decent life left for the future owner to enjoy.  A new battery will be first and foremost on your shopping list, followed by a tune-up.  It would be more fun if this one had three pedals, but this one’s equipped with a Turbo-Hydramatic transmission.

1977 was the first year that a Corvette came standard with leather seating, and most of the interior components still look pretty good here.  A couple of nice features are the power windows and a tilt steering column, plus the standard T-Tops, and with the lack of much available storage space, this one also has the love-it-or-hate-it chrome luggage rack on the back.  $9,999 isn’t exactly small change for a C3 of this vintage, but I’m not finding that amount unreasonable for what we are seeing here, especially considering that it wouldn’t take an exhaustive amount of effort to bring this 1977 Chevrolet Corvette up to a higher level.  What are your thoughts?

Of any car, there truly aren’t that many differences between a ’77 Corvette and the years that preceded or followed it.

The best reason to stay away from a Corvette is simply because you don’t like them.
