Original Owner 1964-1/2 Ford Mustang Coupe

If you’re in the market for a high-performance Mustang this is not the car for you. However, if you find yourself looking for a nice, original daily driver this one might be worth taking a look at. The seller does not give many details about options or history other than this is an original owner ’64 1/2 with 86,900 miles. The lack of interior pictures makes it hard to evaluate the car but from the exterior view, things look good. The seller lists the car as a ’64 1/2 which means it is an early production ’65 model year car. There were a few subtle differences on the 64 1/2 cars, one being the absence of a trim piece on the front edge of the hood, which is visible in this view. Another clue that makes this a ’64 1/2 is the color.  I believe this color to be Chantilly Beige, which is a 64 only color option. The ad does not mention whether the paint is original or if it is a repaint.

The Mustang presents well in the pictures with no visible rust spots that I can see, as with any classic Mustang a thorough inspection for rust is a good idea before purchase. The wheel covers and trim are all in place and the chrome has a nice shine. The limited information in the ad tells us the car is in good condition, runs well, and has mostly original parts. The seller describes the engine as a 200 ci. inline-six, this is either incorrect information or the engine has been changed at some point. The 200 was not available until later in the ’65 model year, this car should be equipped with the 170 ci six. This is not a big deal and may just be a mistake in the listing or it is possible this is not a numbers matching car.

It would be nice to see some interior and underhood shots, which I’m sure the seller will provide to an interested buyer. The car is listed as having an automatic transmission. From the rearview, we can see a ding in the rear bumper but other than that this thing looks clean. If this car is as nice as it looks this could make a nice daily driver that you wouldn’t be afraid to take out of the garage. If it is not equipped, I would install a vintage air conditioning system and hidden Bluetooth radio and drive it regularly.

    I didn’t like these in 1964 and still don’t like ’em. I’d rather have the Falcon they were based on.

        I have two Early Mustangs but I would love to have a Falcon or Fairlane especially a Tin Woody wagon.

      I think he likes the falcon because he’s a younger reader & the falcon came as 4 door too – & “today’s drivers” LOVE 4 doors & LOVE trunks with low liftovers – which the falcon also had – but not the mustang.
      & i bet he would go ape over that aussie 4 door falcon with 351 & shaker.
      Thank goodness tho, for my sake, at least Milner’s & Falfa’s cars were 2 doors. I don’t think they would have picked up any women drivin a 4 door in that movie, & as for the Toad driving a FOUR door ’58, forget it. lol

    The color looks very close to my ’65 Convertible. Called Honey Gold. The door plate should give you the correct info.

      This car generated so much excitement in the runup to its release. Ford got lots of publicity for the reveal at the World’s Fair that year. Then in spring Ford sent a brochure to all families that fit their target demo. This was the car that was featured on the cover. The color was considered exotic in ’64. Every Baby Boomer alive begged their families to get one. Including me. However, we got a ’64 Mercury Colony Park instead. Dad opted for a 390 4 bbl. Leather interior and at the time the best A/C I had ever encountered. Finally in ’67 we succumbed and got a 6 cyl beige Mustang as an “Extra” car.

    Two different mirrors and messed up back bumper and the front plates tell a tail of hitting something as well. Buyer beware. I bet it dog tracks like a MoFo.

    Gosh you guys woke up grumpy this morning. What’s with all the negativity. This is a humble add for a humble car, and we’ll see what the market will bear. Looks pretty straight to me from these shots, but an imagination in a bad mood can turn any ding into a scam artist’s evil scheme. Lighten up and enjoy looking at cars.

    Everybody wants there Mustang to be a 64 1/2, even though there is no such thing. They all left the factory as 65’s. It is true the early cars had some difference’s but the Titles were the same.

    Buying from the original owner must count for something.
    You can get the entire history of the car, along with all of the remaining paper work.

    I was lucky enough a few years ago to visit with Gale Halderman, the head designer for the first Mustangs. He was renting the home across the street from us, for the summer, He was probably sorry he told him. If he was around I would talk with him, actually I think he enjoyed it. He shared lots of stories with me , when I asked about the 641/2 Mustang. He laughed and said ,no such thing, they all left the factory with 65 titles. He did say however, because of the rush to get them out of the factory, that there were many small things, that were rushed and then corrected as time went on through out, the 65 run.
