Original Paint: 1990 GMC Jimmy SLE

When you get near the final production year of any vehicle, you can be sure of two things: one, it will likely have most of the bugs worked out of the vehicle’s design or drivetrain, potentially making for a more reliable vehicle overall; and two, collectors will pay attention to it because they tend to focus on the very start or the very beginning of a production run. This 1990 GMC Jimmy listed here on craigslist isn’t the final-final model year but it is second to last, as production wrapped up in 1991. The truck looks handsome in harvest gold two-tone paint and presents far better than it should for having over 200,000 miles on the clock.

Obviously, the Jimmy is the Blazer’s near-identical twin, and I’d argue we see the Jimmy variant far less frequently than the Blazer. Whether this pushes someone to spend more because of perceived rarity is up for debate, but I’d wager any K5-era truck that’s as clean as this one appears to be is going to attract strong interest. The seller is quite adamant that the paint is original and the truck has never been resprayed, which makes the quality of the cosmetics even more impressive. Located in Spokane, Washington, the Jimmy is clearly benefiting from the Pacific Northwest climate given there’s no rust noted anywhere.

While some collectors prefer the earliest variants of a model, usually because there’s some odd production detail that didn’t make its way past the initial model year, later editions often come equipped with more comfort and convenience features. When the Blazer and Jimmy were nearing the end of their generous production run, more creature comforts became standard along with additional safety features. A rear-wheel anti-lock braking system became standard equipment, as did power mirrors, while cosmetically, the sheet metal was reinforced and fully galvanized. In addition, the rear seat gained arm rest pads to make the passenger area slightly more hospitable.

The engine bay is shockingly clean for a truck with 212,000 miles, and the fuel injected 5.7L 350 V8 is about as dirt simple as it comes for DIY maintenance. The 700R4 automatic transmission is likewise fairly bulletproof and both engine and transmission are cheap to replace if either turns out to have an issue. Horsepower-wise, the 350 offered 210 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque, plenty back then and still good enough today to keep up with traffic. With the seller’s fervent claims that this Jimmy has never been off road or otherwise abused, it could be worthy of a closer look if you’ve been hunting for one without rust issues or undesirable modifications. Describes in great detail what makes a car collectible, then continues to say ‘this is not it’.
Thanks for the lecture , I guess.

This is what Chevrolet should have brought back when they said they were bringing back the blazer. Not the junk they put different emblems on to call it a blazer, yes I know this is a GMC Jimmy point is the same this is the last of the decent ones for this rig

GM has the perfect opportunity to right that wrong by using the Canyon/Colorado platform to build a body on frame SUV that actually has some off road chops. I’m sure that it will never happen but we can dream.

This is a very nice truck with great colors. Every since I was a kid I’ve loved the two tone trucks. They are not trimmed out the way they used to be when this truck came off the line but some like the one I drive today with the bottom stripe still look good.
I bought my second bullnose Bronco that was a medium sandstone/ light sandstone two tone. To this day it was favorite color combo of any of my trucks. Almost always looked clean and the easiest to maintain.
