Original Paint Garage Find: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The popular Ford Mustang got its first serious competitor in 1967, the Chevrolet Camaro. Sure, the Plymouth Barracuda debuted the same month as the Mustang, but its sales were minimal by comparison. The seller’s 1967 Camaro has its original engine and paint but has been stuck in a garage for what may have been a long time. Whether it runs or not will be a matter of trial and error at first.

Chevy sold nearly 221,000 copies of the Camaro in 1967. That was less than half of what the Mustang managed, but it did put a dent in the Mustang’s market share which would shrink every year going forward. This one has a 327 cubic inch V8 engine, perhaps the one that produced 275 hp when new. It’s likely paired with a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission.

We suspect this Camaro is part of an estate sale. The seller isn’t interested in fielding offers online, just in person on specific dates. We can’t see where rust is a problem, and the yellow paint and black vinyl roof may be in okay shape. The same may be true for the original interior, as well. We’re told the odometer reads 76,000 miles which sounds about right if the car has been dormant as long as the flat tires suggest.

The town of La Habra, California is where the Chevy has been calling home. And limited details about the Chevy can be found here on Facebook Marketplace. The original listing indicated that $17,000 was the asking price, but that has been zeroed out so perhaps the seller is leaving the number to the highest bidder.

Nice car. Having owned a 67 Marina blue Camaro(not Camero like in the FB listing), I don’t think that is the original Butternut yellow color from the factory. Looks too yellow to me. Maybe it’s the lighting. GLWTS.

If it is a 327, looks like 283 valve covers

A little research indicates that all 67 camaro small blocks had script valve covers. SS and z/28 were chrome; all others painted.

I believed that those are 283 engine that has been bored out to 327 (leftovers) at GM factory back then without having to redesign new ones.

Huh??? Why in the world would Chevrolet try to turn a 283 into a 327, when that motor was available since ’62? As far as the subject car goes, it seems high to me, but they will probably get it from someone.

I love the color combination, reminds me of the 69 Firebird 400 I had many years ago. If it had American racing wheels it would be nearly a match in appearance. The Firebird had a 400 c.I. Engine with 400 turbo automatic though. Interior was a bit different with a lot of fake wood grain in the Firebird. I would not be ashamed to park this Camaro in my driveway.

Agree that is not the correct hue of original Butternut yellow. The car has been repainted at some point. And that is a 283 air cleaner, which means it has the puny 283 carb under there, not the Quadrajet that came on the 327. Lots of questions …
