Originally Hemi Orange: 1971 Plymouth Barracuda

This 1971 Plymouth Barracuda is described as a numbers-matching project with minimal rot and lots of hard to find bits still attached. Despite being what I’d consider a lower spec model, bidding is quite active and the current number has risen to over $17,000. The Barracuda comes with a running 318 paired to an automatic transmission, and the seller has made multiple “adjustments” to the listing as the price has gone higher. Find it here on eBay and located in Florida.

The listing has been updated a few times, going from a Buy-It-Now with free shipping if the BIN was utilized to a no reserve auction with shipping the responsibility of the buyer. Whether the Barracuda attracted more attention than expected or the seller realized shipping a semi-running project is pretty pricey, we’ll never know. As seen here, the body is far from perfect.

However, the original colors of Hemi Orange with a black vinyl top likely makes this Barracuda a catch for some Mopar fanatics, along with the seller’s claim that 1971 was the most desirable year (I’ll let the Mopar experts sort that out.) The Barracuda is largely complete, with an interior that needs restoration but also comes with the “…rare deluxe covers.”

The seller also apparently listed the Barracuda at first as a non-runner but later amended the listing to confirm it will be a runner before the next owner takes possession. Of course, with the pending weather forecast for Florida, he better hope his work is done before Monday evening. Is this Barracuda worth the current bid price, even with a 318 under the hood?

This is one of my favourite MOPAR cars. I wouldn’t touch this one, and imagine that the bidding is high because some people are looking to restore it to a big dollar hemi car.
With both a rough body and interior, it is going to be an expensive project.

Solid- but the back window and the mud coming off the roof is suspicious. By looking at the gut and the rust in the roof I’m thinking this thing went in the water. Trunk also. 17 large and 11 hrs to go. Also thinking its a mud queen. Looker over good, Not seeing much to make it worth 17 grand. Good luck to the new owner.
    Cheers

I have a funny feeling this one will end up with fender gills, a shaker hood, with Cuda billboards on the quarter panels. Just a guess.
