When it comes to building wild Corvettes, few companies have built more of a legacy than Greenwood. From their own creations to kits that any enthusiast could install, the company has long been supportive of those owners who wish to modify their Corvette to the extreme. That means there are cars that sport a few Greenwood tweaks, and others that have adopted every part from the catalog to essentially create a brand-new, one-off custom. This example falls into that latter category, with a full Greenwood body kit, custom interior with Recaro upholstery, upgraded 454 engine, and loads of other custom touches. Find it here on craigslist for $28,900 in Florida, and thanks to Barn Finds reader Rocco B. for the find.
The Corvette was apparently purchased new with the intent of modifying it with the Greenwood wide body kit. You can see here just how dramatically it alters the shape of the car, with its fenders jutting out significantly over stock. The spoiler is a bit much for my tastes, and I’d like it more if it just had the wide body panels but no rear spoiler. Wheels are obviously significantly upsized over stock, 1o inches wide up front and 12 inches wide out back. The seller mentions they, too, are a custom job. The black paint job is accented by orange pinstriping and over subtle details, which continues to the interior, that has been extensively customized with the carpets replaced with custom “…carbon fiber orange vinyl,” according to the listing.
Wow – bring your sunglasses. Now, while I don’t understand why orange and black was the color combo of choice, the stock seats sport one of my favorite Recaro upholstery patterns ever made. While I would love to see actual Recaros in a car like this where cost was clearly not a concern, the OEM buckets with this period-correct upholstery looks great and certainly match with the off-the-wall cabin. Despite all of the custom touches, the Corvette retains functioning A/C, along with all the usual convenience features, including power steering, windows, locks, and a tilt steering wheel. While aftermarket work like this can always appear slightly tatty in person, the work does look like it was done to a high level. I can’t imagine how much the owner spent on just the interior.
The extreme level of enhancements doesn’t subside when you get to the engine bay, as the Corvette features a modified 454. The list of modifications is extensive, from sidepipes to headers to chromed “..engine compartment accessories.” The trouble with overly-modified cars is that they quickly become a reflection of one owner’s tastes, and can sometimes be a challenge to offload onto a new owner because it doesn’t resonate with their personal style. To me, the best kind of buyer is one who can see what they can strip away and what they can keep, which may make it easier to see through the personal touches. Would you keep this wild Greenwood Corvette exactly as-is, or modify it to your own tastes?
“To the Bat-vette, Robin!”
Yes! my first thought Batmobile, I’ve seen alot of terrible greenwoods this one is finished very well, looks great! stripes are in the right spots those well houses are hard to fill, these tires and wheels fit perfect, this would fit in the 70’s era custom corrvettes (I know it’s an 1980) and I believe the interior colors fit the mod! anyways nice job.I have a 1975, hmmm… maybe I won’t restore it total stock.
Wow.. Interior is such a let down on a great car
That’s some nice eye candy in the CL ad, not sure if she will help sell the car though!
I hate myself for liking this car.
The token white girl in short shorts. Good lord
Maybe she is the owner. Just saying.
I bit to wild for my taste. maybe loose the spoiler and tone down the orange insides.
So, let’s just say you are a Dad. Your 17-year old daughter is going on a date with “Danny”. “Danny” rolls up in this. Does your daughter have a chance in hell of getting in and driving away?
No she doesnt, because Danny is at least a middle aged man given that no one under the age of 40 minimum would be caught dead in this thing!
…with a paunch and a comb-over…
Lose the Greenwood labels, the excessive pin striping, and tone down the Halloween interior and this would be much better looking (IMO)! :-)
And lose the wing. Then it’ll be right.
I don’t hate it. Greenwood kits never quite worked on the 1980+ C3’s because of the built-in rear spoiler. Change the end cap to a pre 1980 cap, and the Greenwood spoiler then works visually.
That car is so outrageous its perfect, aside from the wheels – needs to have 80’s style BBS wheels IMHO
It would take a certain type of personally to drive this around.
I would wear a full helmet with a mirror face shield
What a waste, it’s an automatic…
This car doesnt even have sidepipes, these are $200 ebay special, we call them “underpipes” if you look at the side profile they are mounted way low.
Did you expect a manual? This is clearly a poser car. Who sells a 40yo vehicle for 30gz without even a single underside pic? How much you wanna bet that even if it aint rusty (im pretty sure it is- they all have problem areas) its all stockish and nothing updated
Way too many purists here. This thing was built to enjoy and have fun with. The 80s models were pretty boring making them perfect for this kind of modification. Cars are fun, remember? Wife loves this car but there isn’t a room for groceries. Guess it’s back to the Mini for her.
It would certainly rock a radwood gathering.
I actually think it is in your face kind of cool.
Batman approved.
Nope. Too much like a full-sized HotWheels car. The original Corvette needed improvement, but this isn’t it.
say what you wanna say, but all of you know that if you pulled up ANYWHERE, this crazy car would be a hit. Even the haters would be pouring over it pointing out all the things they don’t like about it.
The 454 big block looks good. Other than that I rather being seen driving the Corvair wagon.
Wow. This car is trying way too hard. Its like the anti – sleeper look. I wonder if a modern day mini van would out run it at a stoplight?
I don’t get it when someone has a chick in the picture, they think the guys are not going to pass it by without a look at the chick what is…………
And what’s up with the garage? You really shouldn’t let your wife decorate your garage with weird ceiling curtains and Christmas lights. Immediate revocation of the man card right there
Na na na na na naaaa…..
is there a limit to number of words in a comment?
as my comment does not post
What I want to know, is: Who at the “Horsepower Ranch” thought it would be cool to hang the fabric veils from the ceiling?
That smacks more of “Wedding Reception” than “Fast Cars”.
Judging by the comment above, some here seem to have been just in front of the TV in the 70’s when all this happened.
I have one similar (’78) and was member in the Swiss Corvette Club in my younger days. One of my cupboard’s still is full of American Car Magazines which 90% shows modified cars. Attending the yearly club meets, over 50% of Corvettes were modified. I think I can say that was the thing to do. The other word is “personalising” the car.
In my case the conversion came upon a repair when the car spun out on a perfect straight and dry road when swerving around a piece of wood on the road with noticeable long nails in it. the car sun out and hit the road edge barrier front and rear. …………
…………………This was a manoeuvre one (I) would not have taken the arm, resting on the console, driving in a in a Mercedes. Yet in the Corvette it was not recoverable and I just sat there as a passenger and waited till the car came to a stop.
Mean to say that model Corvette had dreadful handling compared with European Cars.
I am a driver (and mechanic) so needless to say since I had to get my hands dirty I did it in a way that suited me and my driving style.
………………….
Automatic: Again I am surprised about the comments above but it seems people commenting negative about an automatic and suggesting a drag race might be lost off the traffic light, because of an automatic – IT IS THE OTHER WAY AROUND (sorry about the capital letter use, but I did not want you to miss that) . My Corvette was (and is still) automatic from the factory a 350 but since the accident a “tricked” (or worked) 400. ……..
cont….People here who know numbers (350 cub 6000 rpm, 3 speed auto 1800 stall with 3.55: 1 diff, and for the Autobahn a 30% B&M overdrive which was slightly to tall but got the car to 260km/hr without reeving out).
The car (about 2 t) was as fast as a 750 Honda (‘80model at the time) of the traffic light. rolling start at about 60km/h and kick down over a 2km distance about 1km ahead over a Yamaha 1100XS and as far as cars are concerned the 911 turbo had the nose “just ” upfront off the lights…..
As far as manual gearboxes are concerned (and I love to drive them just as well in a big cub engine car like 6.3/W109 Mercedes!) they are great in general driving, engine breaking (and sound) and if you want to keep the engine in the same gear (somewhat possible with automatic), but are “no” match to a tricked automatic of the line.
A friend of mine had an early model C3 convertible. 6.6ltr big block with manual and had no change even so his car was lighter and had more torque.
The Corvette was always a posing car even off the Showroom floor.
To me the Corvette was always like a street girl showing their curves. Now you might like to complain about the make up she’s wearing or the hairstyle but don’t tell anybody to believe that deep down you don’t admire the body curves :)
And here as in real live some curves are a bid smaller and some curves are a big bigger. However there is always an admirer and if you don’t like it in particularly just accept it for want it is and enjoy that others find it stunning.
My 3 cents worth. (probably more a dollar the 3 cents).
If I could find a option of attaching a picture I would put a picture of the factory GM /OPEL German magazine as published.
