When shopping for a 1969 Ford Torino, the coveted R-Code is one every Blue Oval enthusiast dreams of finding someday, and if that’s you the search is over. But unfortunately, the pedigree is about where the positives end here, as it looks like the car was stripped of a few panels ions ago and what’s still there is showing some rust, torching, and denting. However, the seller is optimistic and says that although the Ford may look rough he thinks it’s very restorable, and with the title and VIN stampings still present he believes that’s half the battle already won. Perhaps I’m armchair quarterbacking here as I’ve never attempted a Torino restoration, but I’m quite certain this one is several levels out of my league to take on as a project, but maybe it’s just right for you plus there’s also a second car included for good measure, so if you’ve got the skills maybe this pair of 1969 Ford Torinos here on Craigslist is worth considering. The cars are located in Bohemia, New York, with the seller asking $5,500 for both.
Our thanks go out to reader Mitchell G. for the tip here! The main Torino is said to have been born an R-Code, and if I’ve got my Ford ducks in a row I think that means the 5th digit in the VIN is the letter R, indicating a Ram Air car with this one originally sporting a 428 cubic-inch 4-Barrel Cobra Jet V8, with a 4-Speed here too. I’d be salivating right now if the factory combo was still present, but it isn’t, although the seller is also offering a turn-key 428 with plenty of goodies inside for an additional $5,000. No word on whether or not he’s got an extra 4-Speed to go along with it, but some good news is the 9-inch rear-end is still intact.
There aren’t too many interior components left, but who knows, maybe that radio will still crank out some tunes somewhere down the line. Some more unfortunate news is there’s rust and some frame rot underneath, but let’s not forget that you also get another car in addition that the seller says will have many usable parts to help in the restoration.
The second 1969 Torino is an S-Code 390 V8 automatic car, with the seller clearly stating this one is very rough but does have all the glass, trim, and seats. I’m just not sure combining these together will fix what’s broken on the R offering, but instead am envisioning a long and expensive venture to get that one bad-boy car back on the road. However, if you’ve got the talent maybe $5,500 for both and another 5k for the motor is a good starting point, or maybe you know somebody who could do something with this pairing. What are your thoughts here?
Would rather have the ’32 5 window beside it.
Correction: Not a ’32 but would take it over the piece of rust for sale.
My thoughts too!
Or the fox body or the F series truck in the window
32 Chevy coupe
I see the red one has theft protection. And besides having replace the entire body, frame and interior on the R code? Looks like a nice father/son project. If your last name is Foose.
Or “Foole”
Nice in their day. Today, woof.
Bohemia? Never heard of it, is it anywhere near Bum $&#@ Egypt? My only question is, why do people let cars like these, get like this. The world may never know. I dare someone to say we haven’t seen worse for more money
Bohemia is smack dab in the center of Long Island. These two cars are smack dab in the middle of a money pit,and that’s coming from a huge fan of ’68-’69 Fairlanes/Torinos.
If you buy these all you need then is a decent one to start with.
Two piles of trash .!!!
Scrap price imo. You’re time is $ and life is too short and these are not worth it as well as your hard earned $.
Oh my goodness!
You’d have to pay me 5,000 just to tow them out of the yard.
These buckets are perfect examples of 2 piles.
These cars are awesome when restored, but it’s tough to even see the potential in these offerings. Pretty rough.
Nope, not me. Like Lynyrd Skynyrd said in the song. I ain’t the one!
Not interested in dope smokin hippie bands
That’s what you equate one of the worlds best bands ever to? You sound like my old man,,,sho’, got that right!
Perry Como fan, eh?
“R” code stands for “rust” or “rot” in the case of these cars? There’s nothing left to work with here.
Terrible,,you know, I recently learned, one of the all time best automotive gurus, Dan Strohl is retiring from Hemmings after almost 20 years. He joins a long list of journalists to do so. I can only speculate, it’s foolishness like this, that has steered their interests to other areas. All this particular post tells me, well, all these, really, is how desperate a situation we are in, to think this crap is worth anything except scrap value, about $150/ton today. I really wish BFs would divert their attention to plausible, affordable projects, BFs original intention, I believe and let this stuff rot in the sun.
I think they’re selling VINs and I don’t even want to get into that.
I agree, wholeheartedly.
Prices in the Tease would be nice, too. Scrolling past the likes of the Torinos would be validated by the price.
Oof. Those things look rougher than a night in jail.
Nothing to see here, move along. These aren’t even worth hauling to the scrapyard. The fuel and time is more than these rust piles will bring across the scale, not to mention the danger that something falls off and you get hit with an insurance claim.
Rusty piles of Chevrolets, I mean Fords. Equally worthless
