Pair of Suicide Door 1939 Ford Deluxes

Unfortunately, the owner of these two 1939 Ford Deluxe 4-doors didn’t get to see the projects completed before he passed away. The family is now selling both cars with a ton of extra parts. They can be found here on Hemmings with an asking price of $7,800. Both cars are complete, 4-door cars with suicide rear doors. Located in Poulsbo, Washington, the best parts of each car could be combined to make a nice complete project with the extra car and parts being sold to recoup some of the cost. Take a look at these projects and let us know what you would do.

Unfortunately, most of the photos in the ad are fuzzy or distorted. The ad does say that there has been “A lot of bodywork and restoration…done since these pictures.” Hopefully, the seller will provide some updated photos if a potential buyer can’t inspect the cars in person. While 4-door cars aren’t as desirable as their 2-door counterparts, during the 30s and 40s they aren’t actually that big and can be built into really nice hot rods.

Here you can see some of the extra parts that come along with the cars. It’s hard to tell if they are new parts or NOS parts. Either way, a ton of new parts will be a big plus for whoever ends up building these cars. There are photos of a hood, dash, and engines that all look pretty decent. There are three flathead V8s that come with the sale along with 3-speed transmissions.

Here are some of the fenders. Some look better than others, but hopefully, between all of them, a decent set of four can be put together. If you’ve got the storage room to have two projects like this with extra parts, this seems like a decent pair to invest in. What do you think?

Someone who is really familiar with this era of Ford could really benefit by snapping them up?

For most of us, a jigsaw puzzle, and lots of guessing about what goes where. Good beginnings for a resto-rod perhaps, and the primered car appears to have most of the bodywork done.

Dang, I’m in the same boat with several projects, better get busy before I check out and leave the mess for someone else!

Sorry, but the last thing I would want to buy is someone else’s problems. That’s all I see here. No telling if everything is there to even rebuild one, let alone two. Keeeeeeeep shoppin’.

Projects never bring what a complete car will bring based upon the unknown factors of what went into the reconstruction so far and what parts are missing. Another detractor for many would be the rear doors.

The weakest part of the market is project cars. Seems that one practically has to give them away to sell them. I’m pretty certain that those of us that have finished a car know the huge cost in building them even if they do much of the work themself. It’s just cheaper to buy a finished car.

We’re building a car now and don’t even want to know how much it cost when we’re done. Agree the two door cars are cool, but cars like the ’39 and ’40 Fords are pretty slick when made into mild street cruisers.

Just for a second there, I thought it was a split window VW.

Rebuild on a phlathead is about 4K if it is done correctly. Then, you have paint and interior. Think say, 10 k for a cheap spray.?Think about 3k for the trans and there you are sitting at the curb in front of the poorhouse with extra parts!
