Parked Since 2000: 1967 Chevrolet Impala

This 1967 Chevrolet Impala has been off the road for 23 years. It was last inspected in 2000, driven 50 miles, and then parked until recently. We assume the storage was indoors as the body and paint look great, and the interior would look good, too, if not for grime on all four door panels. The car no longer runs, which could indicate a small or large problem. Being offered out of an estate sale in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this Chevy is available here on eBay where the no-reserve auction stands at $2,275.

Chevrolet had a banner year in 1965, selling more than one million full-size cars. That success wasn’t sustainable, but the similarly styled 1967s were still in big demand. That included the Impala 4-door sedan like the one for sale here. We wish a little more history was provided – like is it a one-owner car driven only to the store and church on Sundays? And what caused the vehicle to be put away and left unused for more than two decades?

Whatever the case, the mileage on this Chevy is low suggesting lots of life may be left once it’s resuscitated. It has no spark when you try to start it up, but could that be because it’s trying to ignite the fuel that went into the gas tank at the turn of the century?  We’re guessing there’s a 327 cubic inch V8 to be sorted out, as well as a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. But it looks to be complete and ready for someone to begin work.

If I were selling the car, I would have aired up all four ancient tires before taking the photos. And wiped down the door panels which are strangely dirty while the rest of the interior presents well. And the carpet looks almost brand new. Hopefully, there are no odors as a result of sitting so long. Maybe all four windows were left cracked open. The trunk is full of extra stuff, like a set of snow tires and the car’s original wheel covers (which I would put back on instead of the aftermarket wire covers). Even with four doors, this looks like a good project car.

Neat car, should be pretty simple to get it running and driving, cleaned up and enjoyed for what it is. Those seats are definitely newer. Since I like those hubcaps, they’d also go right back on. I haven’t seen snow tires in years.

If original, that should be a 283 under the hood. It would read 327 on the call out badge otherwise.

I think that this car was under water at one time.all that on the door pads and at the back of the front seat is mold and I am sure that it smelled when they opened up the doors.may need more work than bargained for.

Looks like mold on the interior panels. no pics of underside..perhaps a close personal inspection is warranted as may be a flood car?? Don’t usually see this kind of damage in the NE…

The attraction for Grandpa’s Chevy……being a ’67…..and about as generic as they come…. escapes me.

At the time these were the equivalent of today’s Camry.

Prediction, even though it is a sedan, and not a hardtop, it will be painted black, to turn it into a Supernatural tribute car.

The Chevy either has a spark or does not. Not having a spark has nothing to do with old gas. Most likely the points are corroded. Or worse, the shear pin on the distributor is sheared off due to lack of oil. I assume it was cranked over to check for spark but as usual on here, no details.

They look much better when they are pillarless.

Highly doubt that this car was a flood car or under water due to the condition of the rest of the interior. Dollars to donuts that probably is some sort of mold on the door panels probably cumulative from years of moisture while it sat unused. There are many over the counter automotive cleaners that would kill that mold and probably reveal vinyl in decent condition underneath it. Would most definitely advise an up close inspection of the under carriage!

I remember an older lady near my town had one like it back around 1986 or so, had 4 doors and same color, but it had the 427 fender tags and she let me look under the hood and yes there it was!

Well, it is has an organic interior which is likely caused by the rear window leaking. Seems decent and has the lighted front lights. It will make a decent driver. I know a fella that still uses a 68 sedan daily.
