Parked Since ’78: 1973 Chevrolet Corvette

This 1973 Chevrolet Corvette has been off the road since 1978. The owner bought it as a project car some years ago, but a growing family meant that he never got started on it, so he has decided that the time has come to sell it. You will find it listed for sale here on Craigslist. Located in Mentor, Ohio, it comes with a clean title. The asking price for this Corvette is $5,200, and the seller is not interested in considering a trade.

The seller says that the car needs a full restoration, but it is complete. He also says that the car has never had a hit, and all of the fiberglass is original and in good condition. It certainly looks quite solid, with no real signs of cracking. There is some damage to the bottom corner of the driver’s door, and something odd about the headlight on the same side, but otherwise, it looks solid. The seller states that the birdcage is nice, with no signs of rot around the windshield posts. He does say that the rear frame section is bad.

There are no shots of the engine or interior, but according to the seller, the interior is all black. We don’t get a lot of insight into its condition, nor do we know much about the drive-train. We know that the car is powered by a 350ci V8, and that the transmission is a 4-speed. The seller also states that it has a functional cowl induction and that the car is fitted with air conditioning. We don’t know whether the engine turns freely, and that’s frustrating. The car originally resided in California, so is fitted with a smog pump.

Placing a value on this Corvette is difficult because it is such an unknown quantity. The fact that it is the last of the Kamm-tail cars with the chrome rear bumpers tends to make it more popular among Corvette aficionados than the later C3s. The seller acknowledges in his ad that it needs a lot of work, but is it a project that you would be willing to take on?

Let’s see, it’s a 1973, parked since 1978. Let’s do the math. Ahh…. basically a 5 year old car needs this level of restoration.

Where was it stored? In I can’t image USA.

Bothersome hearing this story. That said the price and pictures suggest it worth a close inspection.

I own an 2001 Corvette and it’s Drivin very, very little and a touch of clear coat showing wear. And that’s about all.

If your a first time Vette buyer or a flipper I would think this one would be of some interest to you.

I guess you never spent time in Ohio by lake Erie. The humidity in the summer and salt in the winter will kill a car in 2-3 years around here. My old Chevelle sat inside for most of it’s life and ended up all kinds of rusty just from humidity !

Any corvette of this generation I would consider investigating , the rear frame issue is where I start….these vettes are certainly worth investing in if seems you get a good return on that investment.

Hard to imagine Lake Erie worse than 6 blocks from Pacific Ocean in Huntington Beach. Where I bought a56 Tbird stored for 27 yrs. and it was a mess.

So Im to understand Lake Erie many times worse than Pacific Ocean that when the storms come there have times when water high enough to see residents canoeing to get around.
