You can walk the Million Dollar Mile and you can have a Million Dollar Smile and if you are really, really into Plymouths and Dodges you can have a Million Dollar Mopar. Let’s face it, most of the Mopar magic from the mid-sixties through the early seventies has the “Big Mo” when it comes to perceived value. Forget about the condition, it just needs to have the name badge or the fender tag, or at one time possessed a certain engine (emphasis on “at one time”) or have a square inch of Panther Pink paint hidden in some inconspicuous spot and kaboom, sky-high values. With that thought in mind, let’s take a look at one of the most popular Mopars of all time, a 1968 Dodge Charger, located in Centerfield, Utah and available here on eBay for a BIN price of $17,499. There is a make an offer option too.
I won’t recall the Charger’s history, that’s been done to death by everyone but I will admit that the ’68 to ’70 models are among the most iconic designs of all time. But those were the years too, along with the ’69 Camaro, ’70 Chevelle, ’69 Torino Cobrajet (heck throw in the ’70 and ’71 too), the ’68-’70 AMX, ’69 and ’70 Mach 1/Boss Mustang, ’69 GTO Judge and on and on (feel free to add your favorite, I’ll run out of room if I try to name all of the greats from the era). See the trend? Back then, total symmetry, it all came together perfectly, the proper blend of style and power. This ’68 Charger is firmly in the club.
Or is it? According to the seller, “needs floors, trunk, and quarter patch. I have almost all the very expensive parts needed to restore it. not all parts are pictured. do not have grille and front and rear glass”. It still doesn’t matter, this Dodge is definitely in the club and that’s the case with a ’68 Charger, it doesn’t matter what shape it is in, it will sell and sell well. This car actually looks like David Freiburger’s (RoadKill) General Mayhem Charger except that the Mayhem runs. Hey but all is not lost, this Charge has two American Racing Torque-Thrust mag wheels and a cool “01” displayed on the passenger door.
The seller claims that this Dodge is a genuine “383 high-performance H code original” except the “H” is long gone, this baby is a roller. Sure the VIN checks out but this is a youstabee power-wise. There is, however, a rebuilt TorqueFlite A727, three-speed automatic transmission installed, so that’s a help. And that engine compartment actually looks pretty darn good!
How about that interior? Other than the fact it’s a space on the inside of the car, that’s about it. The dash/instrument panel looks like a Nevada bomb test-site. There is one door card that sort of looks OK. The rest of it? Hopefully, all of the replacement/missing parts are somewhere in that massive parts collection (see images please).
As indicated, the seller advises that he has, “lots of parts”, good to know because this Dodge is gonna’ need lots of parts. To be fair, there are many images of components, but what’s really there and what isn’t? Parts are parts until you go through them one by one and figure out what you really have and what you’ll really need. Oh, and one last item, there’s no title. But, be forwarned as the seller admonishes, “do not need to sell so please don’t lowball. if no one buys ill restore it”. So, which way do you think this Charger will go, to a new home or stay put for a seller restoration?
A BIN price of $17,499. That’s mental.
Agree with Rex that the seller is nuts! But he’s in Centerfield-Usually the nuts are in leftfield. Yes, he has “almost all of the very expensive parts needed to restore it.” But wait! No engine! And don’t lowball him! Lol.
Not picking on this car but ever notice the % of highly sought after muscle cars, especially the Mopar and Chevelle rollers that pop up on BF have misaligned/distorted body panels of various colors but advertised as originals sans the powertrain?

But has 6 different colors from the frame, to body panels, to the fire wall ,occasionally the lower rockers etc all mis matched and poorly attatched.
Yet Sellers want 5 figure base prices for these mostly “Frankenstein ” assembled hulks.
What was and what is there, are galaxies apart.
No motor ,unknown condition trans.? Missing glass ,and what’s there is cracked or cloudy as hell.
I wouldnt offer more tha $8k for this SCRAP HEAP RESCUE EFFORT..and that’s counting the transportation
shippment costs.
I’ve seen dozens of these hulks on here, and regardless of what they used to be, vs what they are .theyll never get put back together in any shape ,close to original. With Deeper pocket starting points , that sellers think they’re worth. – and buyers SPEND double the Amount of purchase ,just to get it close to normal Driver status..or tripple the $ to customize,restomod or fully classic- restore them.
My pockets will never be that deep. .
The seller is right about one thing, he’s got lots and lots of parts…Amazon must have been to his house almost daily! Thought I spotted a Dana 60 rear end housing in the pile too…this is usually where I say it’s not worth it, but he may have 17K in parts alone….
No telling what the actual cost would be to purchase this lot and get it home. Then the restoration costs. Wow.
At that price, it Looks like he’s going to be putting this one together himself. And After about 500 labor hours he’ll have completed this jigsaw puzzle.
Well I,d pat him on the back and tell him he better get started,because I sure wouldn,t be the sucker to pay that price. Keep looking and you,ll find them alot better shape for less. They are out their. No motor——for $17,000 you would expect all of it their. I,ll pass to alot better cars or trucks. I won,t give $2,000 for it in that shape. Put out a reward for a complete 68 Charger with a bounty of $1,000 and you get quite a few bites in alot better shape for less. Someone–somewhere will sale it because of being hard up–estate sale–or just want to get rid of it.

I’ve noticed some wary common sense lately by posters here when it comes to vehicles offered.
“Due Diligence” is not just a hack phrase.
This thing has no motor, grill, windshield etc, etc.
A TRUE “Barn Find” IMHO is a COMPLETE car that was run into a barn, unmolested and the door closed.
The price asked is OBSENE.
no title is a big deal, good for the parts,for about half the bin imo
